About the Technology & Innovation Team

The Technology & Innovation Team is the engine room for innovation at Laing O’Rourke, where we look for pioneering innovations to transform the organisation and industry in service of humanity. Our team have deep experience in a diverse range of emerging technologies and processes, including design thinking, research and development, human-centred design, artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, digital products, Internet of Things, and advanced materials and manufacturing.

About the Internship Programme 

The purpose of the Internship Programme is to equip students with the foundational knowledge and experience for a successful career in technology and innovation within the construction industry.

Assigned to the Technology & Innovation Team for the summer, Laing O’Rourke’s industry-leading Internship Programme will give you on-the-job experience combined with technical training, professional development and support from some of the best professionals in the industry. We believe in making a big investment in our Interns which includes access to meaningful work, supervision and feedback, mentoring and coaching, a dedicated buddy and weekly Intern training sessions.

While all positions are based in Sydney – and potentially one in Melbourne. We are flexible with working arrangements and study commitments.

Our past interns have gone on to work for companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Atlassian, Alice Technologies, and multiple start-ups! Alternatively, if you are planning a long term career in construction - The 2022 Interns will be given priority consideration to join the 2023 Graduate Programme, so now is the time to construct your career with Laing O’Rourke.

About the role – Technology & Innovation Intern

A sample of the type of tasks you may complete as an Intern include:

• Desktop research into strategic trends and emerging technology drivers that will impact the future of construction

• Deep discovery into real-world challenges and problems faced by our projects,

• Scanning the external technology ecosystem for viable solutions that can improve health and safety, sustainability, productivity, and certainty for our people, clients and community

• Critical assessment of technology opportunities, focusing on technical and commercial feasibility, and scale into our core business

• Preparing clear and concise presentations and proposals for executives and senior leaders on research outcomes and business recommendations

• Working with innovation and industry-leaders to deliver, measure and monitor to measure impact of innovation

• Collaborating with to multiple projects and functions to deliver ‘change that unlocks value’

About you

• Currently studying - a relevant degree in science, engineering, data science, design, architecture, business, or arts  

• Creates energy - Highly motivated with energy, passion and drive for technology and innovation

• Has a curious and critical mind - Thrive in a fun, creative, analytical and research- based environment

• Is courageous - Take the initiative to look for solutions, shapes and drives innovation.

• Embraces diversity - Value multiple perspectives, and enjoy working collaboratively as part of a team
