Job Description

Customer Service Representatives are one of the first points of contact for prospective and enrolled students. The position is responsible for providing excellent customer service via phone, email and virtual channels for schoolwide offerings and policies (Expeditions, Wilderness Medicine, Risk Services, Custom Education, and Alumni). Be well-versed with all NOLS pillars and generate student enrollment to help meet sales goals.

  • We can support remote employees in the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming.

What does a Customer Service Representative do?

This role is in our Sales and Marketing Team. You will be involved in the following activities:

  • Communicate with prospective and enrolled NOLS students on the phone and through emails

  • Additional office/clerical support: Front line coverage and office tasks related to school-wide enrollment support, such as filing, marketing mailings, database updates, reviewing simple forms, etc.

  • Responsible for securing expedition deposits and tuition installments in a timely fashion, and for accurately communicating financial status of a student's account

  • Other projects as assigned

What makes a great Customer Service Representative at NOLS?

  • Strong customer service, interpersonal, organizational, task management, verbal and written communication skills and team collaboration

  • Enthusiasm for and ability to connect with a wide variety of individuals

  • Ability to build rapport quickly in person as well as through remote conversation/correspondence with a wide audience

  • Collaborate to work effectively in both a team environment and independently

  • Office skills such as basic computer knowledge, information tracking, filing, creating and maintaining spreadsheets, and data entry is preferred

  • Sales experience is welcomed

  • NOLS graduate is preferred

  • Collaboration skills are required. 

  • Propensity for self-leadership with ability to balance being a member of a high-paced work environment while also remaining self-directed, seeking feedback, articulating needs, and maintaining a degree of ownership and responsibility.

  • Works as a team with the other Customer Service Team members, especially as workloads shift seasonally. Works as a team with other Admissions, and Sales + Marketing, Headquarters and NOLS Location staff.

In your first 6 months, you will: 

  • You will be confidently engaging with potential customers and sharing information about NOLS, encouraging them to apply and helping them to do so if they run into errors.

  • Following up with those who have left voice messages and emails in a timely fashion.

  • Connecting with waitlisted students, consulting with families on the best course choice, supporting Admissions and enrolled students 

Building positive relationships and rapport with colleagues and departments around the school
