Job Description

Trustees

Borough Market is a charity, run by a board of volunteer trustees, they have a responsibility to ensure that what we do here works for the benefit of the community, our shoppers, our traders, our neighbours, and the wider public. Our trustees play a vital role in ensuring that the Market achieves its core purpose, whilst ensuring the charity develops and delivers.

We are currently looking for two or more trustees to join our board. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who have knowledge and experience in key areas of property asset management, food and sustainability and who understand the challenges of operating an SME in the current environment who will bring enthusiasm and commitment to the role and broaden the diversity of thinking on our board.

Trustees are required to attend full Board meetings, which are usually held quarterly during the evening at the Borough Market offices. Additionally, trustees are expected to join any of the relevant committees and to attend Board members’ away days or joint training and development sessions. Committee meetings are typically held quarterly. In addition, we have recently commenced the implementation of our 2030 Strategy and there may be an opportunity to join further steering groups that will meet four times a year.

We are looking for people who can demonstrate real enthusiasm and love of the Market, and a desire to make a difference and give back to the community.  We also want a Board that is representative of our community, so we encourage applications from candidates from traditionally underrepresented groups who have the right level of skills and experience but not necessarily at Board level. If you live within 5 Km of the Market and have the skills, energy, and passion to join us on this exciting journey, we would love to hear from you.

Closing date for applications is 2Oth October 2024 applicants should be available to attend the recruitment process which will take place at the Market on Saturday the 2nd of November 2024 and you should be available for 3 hours from 10a.m-1p.m.
