Job Description

The Staff Accountant II position supports the Finance Team’s efforts to give excellent service to NOLS employees and students worldwide. Through this experience, you will be immersed in the world of finance and accounting - and get a behind-the-scenes look at the operations of one of the largest outdoor organizations in the world.

We are looking for someone excited about supporting responsibilities in accounting systems, payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable. This is an opportunity for a shared leadership role in planning and initiating location accounting system improvements and maintaining internal controls in location accounting processes. 

You will have the ability to assess, problem solve, modify and develop systems in collaboration with locations and accounting management, to meet the needs of each country, while complying with standard bookkeeping/accounting practices.

What does a Staff Accountant II do?

  • Maintaining location accounting systems

  • Reviewing, verifying and recording location school revenue, expenditures and assets

  • Preparing bank reconciliations 

  • Resolving any discrepancies with each location

  • Communicating and brainstorming improved accounting system processes with the locations 

  • Providing training on all aspects of the location finances 

  • Working with the location staff on using/maintaining proper accounting and documentation  

  • Checking biweekly payroll reports and reconciling monthly billing for benefits

  • Workers Compensation reconciliation and audits

  • Collaborating across departments to ensure basic accounting needs are met

  • Assisting with projects and other tasks as needed

  • Preparing documentation for the annual audit

  • Assisting with physical in-office and electronic organization of files

In your first 6 months, you will: 

  • Gain a good understanding of NOLS locations and the accounting systems for each

  • Become proficient in reviewing payroll reports for accuracy

  • Become proficient in reconciling all accounts
