We have a fascinating role for someone with an interest in the insurance and long-term savings industry, and prudential regulatory policy in particular. This is an opportunity to get involved in career-defining work, which could take your future career in a range of exciting directions.

What’s the job?

This role will support the Prudential Regulation Team whilst the Assistant Director, Head of Prudential Regulation is acting as Interim Director of Regulation. The Policy Adviser will lead certain prudential regulatory workstreams, and assist Team members in their work on prudential regulation policy development and implementation impacting our members and the wider insurance industry. The role holder will be required to represent industry views and interests to UK government and regulatory authorities, and other relevant parties.

  • Lead and contribute to policy development work with members, including providing proactive and efficient support to working groups/committees and seeking technical input from across the industry.

  • Monitor the development of Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and HM Treasury (HMT) initiatives in coordination with colleagues across the ABI.

  • Lead the ABI’s approach to specific PRA and Government policy projects, working in collaboration with other members of the Prudential Regulation team.

  • Actively develop and maintain relationships with a network of key contacts including member companies, PRA, Government departments, other trade associations including Insurance Europe, and cross-industry groups.

  • Provide support to team-wide processes and projects, including the Team’s regular publications, such as Newsletter and briefing materials, co-ordinating the Team’s regular Committee and member meetings and providing secretariat to the relevant ABI committees where necessary.

What skills are we looking for?

The successful candidate will need to have – or have demonstrated the ability to quickly acquire – the following skills and attributes:

  • Excellent analytical ability and experience of working in a technical area utilising both attributes to influence policy.

  • The ability to speak and write in an articulate manner, supported by convincing evidence, on complex issues at different levels of detail to members and the wider policy community.

  • Effective presentation skills to a variety of audiences and media..

  • The ability to work with members to understand their priorities and concerns, gather evidence from them, and develop robust and credible policy positions, both through the ABI’s formal Committee structure and through bilateral relations with key stakeholders.

  • Lobbying skills, including the ability to influence and persuade senior people in member firms, Government, regulators and elsewhere, and to argue persuasively for the industry’s interests.
