The Opportunity
Enerplus is on an exciting journey to become Best in Basin. To further support our trusted partnership with the business, we are looking for a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Financial Reporting team. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to provide insights to the business to inform decisions and collaborate with Finance professionals and groups across the organization to deliver timely and reliable results. This position is based in Calgary with a mix of remote and in-office time through our Flexible Work Location Program.
Reporting to the Team Lead, Financial Reporting, you will provide guidance and oversight to the Financial Accountants in preparing Enerplus’ quarterly and annual financial statements, MD&A, and other public company filings. In addition, you will lead financial reporting projects (such as the adoption of new reporting standards or the implementation of new software applications), conduct technical research of oil and gas-specific reporting and disclosure items per U.S. GAAP and SEC requirements, and perform ad-hoc analysis over key business drivers to explain results to senior leaders. What You Will Do
Review and advise on the quarterly and annual financial statements, MD&A, and other public filings and consult on disclosure requirements for new transactions or reporting requirements.
Perform ad-hoc analysis of business results by applying industry knowledge to draw insights from financial data and identify trends, drivers, and nuances.
Distil complex information or large data sets into salient explanations for senior leaders and other stakeholders.
Apply knowledge of U.S. GAAP standards, SEC regulations, and oil and gas operations to determine the appropriate accounting treatment of transactions accurately and thoroughly.
Lead projects relating to the adoption of new standards or regulations or the implementation of new software applications by collaborating with stakeholders, managing project deliverables, and anticipating and resolving risks.
The Requirements
Six to ten years experience in a financial reporting role in the upstream oil and gas industry (i.e., exploration and production companies).
A Chartered Professional Accounting designation is preferred.
Experience preparing or reviewing financial statements and MD&A for publicly listed companies.
Strong application of accounting standards for public companies such as IFRS or U.S. GAAP.
Knowledge of SEC disclosure requirements and the ability to perform SEC research is an asset.
Experience with technology (data and analytics tools, data visualization, SQL, software implementation) is an asset.
