Job Description

Are you looking for a new challenge and want to join a successful and growing organisation dedicated to creating social impact ? Do you have a passion for public policy and behavioral science? If so, we want to hear from you.

About Us

The Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) is a social purpose company that combines two approaches to improve people’s lives and communities. First, we use behaviour science (behavioural economics, social psychology) to design new policy ideas with our partners. Second, we run policy experiments, often using randomised controlled trials (RCTs), to determine the effectiveness of those ideas. A collection of these projects can be found here.

Our Singapore office was launched in September 2016. BIT is a trusted advisor to government agencies in Singapore, working with 8 ministries - for example the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Home Affairs - and many more statutory authorities.

All our staff believe passionately in our company values: always prioritising social impact, empiricism and humility, fresh thinking and collaboration, and public service. As our team in Singapore grows, we are now looking for an Associate Advisor to join us. We provide a supportive environment, offering flexible working arrangements and other policies to ensure the wellbeing of everyone on the team.

About You

We are looking for people who understand what we do, share our values, and are keen to learn and develop their expertise. We are looking for candidates with the skills listed below. We expect to provide training and development support in some of the areas.

  • Design and deliver research projects across a broad range of policy areas

  • Public policy: You gather evidence why some policies, programmes and services are effective and others impractical

  • Behavioural science: You have an undergraduate degree in economics, psychology, or other relevant discipline, and a demonstrable interest in behavioural insights

  • Expertise in at least one of these areas of research:

    • Experimental methods, such as randomised controlled trials (RCTs), cluster RCTs, or mixed-effects modeling;

    • Quasi-experimental methods, such as difference-in-difference, matching, or regression discontinuity; or

    • Implementation and process evaluation, such as directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) and program logic maps.

  • Understanding R and RStudio is highly desirable.

What does an Associate Advisor at BIT do?

In this role, you will be expected to work on projects across a wide range of policy areas in Singapore. We’re looking for someone who is enthusiastic about applying behavioural insights to improve the lives of citizens.

As an Associate Advisor, you would be involved in things like:

  • Managing and delivering projects in the Singapore team’s portfolio. This could include preparing policy papers, trial checklists, ideas notes, and literature reviews. You will work with either a Principal Advisor/ Senior Advisor in BIT to implement these projects.

  • Working with colleagues across the organisation to build a positive and collaborative culture and ensuring that quality is maintained across the business.

  • Listening to the objectives and requirements of the organisation seeking advice from BIT, identifying problems, determining the appropriate research methodology with support from our specialist researchers and advising organisations based on these findings.

  • Sharing and communicating insights through activities such as running workshops with clients, and addressing seminars and conferences to present project findings.

What makes a great Associate Advisor at BIT?

  • Able to prepare and deliver engaging training and presentations

  • Work habits and project management: You can manage your own time and that of your colleagues to produce high quality work within a defined timeline and budget.

  • Managing and developing yourself at work: You demonstrate high self-awareness and regularly self-reflect. You are aware of the impact that your actions and words have on those around you. You are resilient and accept responsibility for decisions whether they achieve the desired outcome or not.

  • Supporting and developing others: You are supportive and energize people to perform at their best. You care about the success, development, and wellbeing of others and can have meaningful (and sometimes difficult!) conversations.

  • Clear and effective communications: You can explain complex topics in simple terms. You can lead a workshop or presentation and you write clearly and concisely.

Why work at BIT?

  • We encourage flexible working and have a culture which enables this; for example flexible start and finish times, hybrid working model.

  • Regular team lunches.

  • Comprehensive medical and dental insurance.

  • We strongly encourage growth and personal development, a training and development budget is allocated to each employee.

  • We encourage a strong work life & mental health balance and offer medical leave, compassionate leave, study leave  and 23 days of annual leave

  • An Employee Assistance Program which offers you free, professional and entirely confidential counselling and wellbeing support services
