Job Description

The Equipment Coordinator assists in creating a welcoming, supportive Equipment & Outfitting department for students, faculty, and community members at NOLS Rocky Mountain. They facilitate gear preparation and maintenance for expedition courses. They inspect, maintain, and repair clothing and equipment. They ensure that students and instructors are prepared with proper gear and also feel support and connection through that process. Finally, the Equipment Coordinator serves as an extension of the field experience and strives to offer focused support to students and instructors with that intention in mind.

What does an Equipment Coordinator do?

  • Support students and field faculty during course briefings, starts, transitions, and deissues.

  • Explain and demonstrate proper use and care of equipment when outfitting students.

  • Collaborate in leading, training, and supervising a seasonal team of summer employees.

  • Check, clean, prepare, maintain, and repair outdoor equipment across a variety of course activities, including backpacking and rock climbing. If unfamiliar with any of these skills, a desire to learn and practice these skills is essential.

  • Maintain equipment rental sheets and process student equipment charges through our Point of Sale system

  • Receive and inventory incoming orders of gear and participate in ongoing/biannual inventorying.

  • Provide instruction and training in equipment repair and maintenance for staff, students, and instructors, while promoting a sense of ownership and care.

  • Maintain general cleanliness and organization of outfitting facilities.

  • Provide timely and growth-oriented feedback to supervisor and co-workers.

  • Experience with the use and function of Rocky Mountain equipment, including gear associated with backpacking, fly fishing, and rock climbing.

  • Effective organizational and communication skills.

  • Consistent and self-driven work ethic with high attention to detail.

  • Ability to work effectively on a team, delegate appropriately, and complete tasks independently.

  • Positive, friendly approach to student-service.

  • Ability to work flexible and irregular hours, including weekends, with a goal of maintaining a 40-hour work week.

  • Familiar with the Google Suite (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets).

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds, working while standing for extended periods of time.
