Job Description

About the Centre for Public Impact

We are a global not-for-profit with a fast-growing, highly motivated team working worldwide to promote a more effective and more legitimate government. Our mission is to reimagine government so that it works for everyone. We are just over five years old but already our global footprint is expansive and we partner with some of the biggest names in government, academia and public sector innovation in the world. We need a motivated and very well-connected strategic communications expert to join our Europe team to help draw out the stories and insights emerging from our action research in that region, developing and executing multi-channel strategies to engage and inspire our key audiences. We are encouraging people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to apply - and welcome dynamic, entrepreneurial personalities who have the passion to match their talent.

Position summary

The Head of Communications is a new, but essential role - helping us tell a rather nuanced story about the growing movement of changemakers across Europe who share our emerging vision for better government and are helping us shape what that looks like in practice. You will work closely with the Head of External Relations, who is focused on building that network, as well as the London-based Global Communications team, to develop a comprehensive communications and stakeholder engagement strategy to grow the profile and influence of CPI in Europe. The overall strategy and bespoke project strategies should make use of a variety of tools and tactics, including publications, editorial and creative content, media relations, strategic partnerships, events, social media (paid and organic), email marketing, CRM, web design, and more.

You will be across the detail and able to spot storytelling and strategic partnership opportunities in the wide range of programmes being conducted by the CPI Europe team, elevating them internally for other regions to learn from as well as externally to inspire our global audience of changemakers. You will also work well with our vast network of partners and funders - keeping them informed and aligned to help us achieve our growth and communications aims.

Ideally, you will have experience in the charity and not-for-profit world and/or firsthand knowledge of the public sector in the UK or elsewhere in Europe. You will be a confident communicator, able to talk to people at the highest levels, an enthusiast for government, and keen to muck in and push us to new heights in helping to reimagine government.

How we work

CPI aims to be an inspirational organisation for others that does not believe in top-down control inside government or in the workplace. We operate in a self-managed way, collectively setting objectives and being accountable to one another for what we do and how we do it. We believe each member of the team is best placed to determine where his/her energy and expertise is most needed - and we share our priorities and what help is needed from others as openly as possible. Flexibility is a must - as is patience and thirst for experimental approaches.

Our team works remotely during COVID but intends to return to our office in London after the pandemic. However, we are completely open to permanent remote working arrangements and already have a staff member based in Newcastle!

Our values

We are…

courageous - we have the courage to speak the truth, to challenge without fear and tackle the difficult questions

respectful - we respect differences, we seek to understand them and we look out for one another

optimistic - we are positive about what we and governments can do for our societies

inclusive - we are non partisan, we work together and seek ideas and solutions across the divides
