Our vision
We want all young people, especially those from groups currently underrepresented in STEM, to feel like STEM is ‘for them’. We believe that relevant, meaningful and sustained STEM project work (through our flagship CREST scheme) is a powerful tool to engage and inspire all students and help them build a positive relationship with STEM.
About the team
The Education team at the BSA is supportive, creative and innovative, and we care deeply about the work that we do.
Between us we oversee the CREST Awards scheme (and its associated networks and grants), the activity packs and poster competition for British Science Week and a variety of funded projects that seek to make access to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) more equitable.
The team are based across the UK, and we are happy to discuss remote/flexible working options.
About you
You're a confident, organised and curious person, who is able to manage their own time and workload flexibly. A team-player, you are looking to gain experience working on projects in the charity or STEM education and engagement sectors.
Ideally you will have worked with schools/young people, and you will be comfortable working across all our programmes, transferring your time, skills and energy to different projects and priorities at different times.
You will be highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programmes, and willing and able to learn new IT/digital skills.
Above all you will have a passion for young people and giving all young people (regardless of background) the skills, inspiration and opportunity to feel like STEM is for them.
Key responsibilities of this role
Working on a variety of education-related projects and areas of work as required, example responsibilities include:
•Day-to-day management of the accreditation process of CREST Award activities, including assessing the suitability of activities developed and delivered by partner organisations.
•Assisting with the administration of partnership agreements paperwork and drafting operational instructions that enable partners to engage with the CREST Awards.
•Coordinating the CREST online resource library, including reviewing and updating the contents.
•Providing support on funded project work, including the co-ordination of the development of new STEM resources, predominantly for schools and young people.
•Project coordination tasks including stakeholder and customer liaison, creation of task schedules and monitoring the evaluation of activities and projects.
•Organisation of online events for teachers and students to provide guidance about running CREST and submitting project work for CREST Awards.
•Customer care related activities including responding to teacher enquires via CREST Help Centre.
•Supporting the development of content for British Science Week Activity Packs and liaising with partner organisations.
In addition, the post-holder will be expected to:
·Work closely with colleagues in the Education team and other BSA colleagues towards the achievement of our vision and mission.
·Work closely with colleagues in the Communications team to ensure communication materials are aligned with our brand guidelines and quality standards.
·Proactively strengthen the organisation’s profile and reputation among external stakeholders.
·Support colleagues across the organisation especially at busy times or on specific areas of expertise.
·Other duties as reasonably required by the line manager.
