Job Description
Project Description:
The project aim will be to establish a framework for the GO/NOGO decision for the re-entry of the Space Forge Forgestar-2 satellite. These should be based on the requirements already defined for the space and ground segments. If the framework of what questions need to be asked has been established and time remains the scope can be expanded to determining how the questions can be answered. For example, crucial telemetry to consider, analysis to undertake, or regulators to consult.
Initially you will establish a list of requirements feeding the questions that must be answered as part of the GO/NOGO for re-entry. This will be drawn from the existing set of requirements defined for both the ground segment and the space segment of Forgestar-2. You will also work collaboratively with different parties within Space Forge to ensure a comprehensive capturing of interdependent requirements. This will include discussions with technical leads on specific satellite sub-systems, analysis of the CONOPS, and discussion with licensing and regulation experts.
The next steps following on from establishing this framework of questions (if time allows) would be for you to begin establishing how these questions should be answered. As this package of work cannot be completed in its entirety within the scope of an internship the intention is that you should guide which questions can be answered readily at that time and match the skills and interests the intern wishes to develop.
Technical Skills:
A strong high-level understanding of how a satellite works as a whole
A degree of specific technical development across every sub-system of a satellite
Good requirements writing
Human Skills:
Working in a multi-disciplinary team including both engineering and non-engineering team members
Ability to pre-empt problems and make a plan of how they should be solved
Resolving conflicting interests (if two parties require opposing conditions finding a common ground to suit both)
Experience of industrial engineering processes
Applicant Specification:
Minimum requirements:
Understanding of systems engineering approach and requirements writing
An appreciation of the challenges of a re-entry environment
Experience of defining a process
Independent worker able to take the initiative and propose solutions to a problem (even if they are not the solution chosen in the end)
Able to communicate on the same topic at different levels of technical detail
Strong level of verbal and written English
Desirable requirements:
Either Undergraduate or Postgraduate in an engineering discipline.
Process details:
8 weeks minimum fixed term contract to be agreed with successful candidate
5 days holiday to be taken during the placement
