Job Description
Role Purpose – to lead on all of BEO's engagement activity with Black communities, co-designing BEO's strategy development, projects, programmes, research and campaigns.
Responsibilities
Lead on establishing and maintaining relationships with a diverse range of Black-led community and grassroots organisations from across the UK.
Ensure BEO consults and actively listens to Black community perspectives, building in ongoing engagement opportunities and processes where possible across BEO's strategy development, projects, programmes, research and campaigns.
Ensure that wider stakeholders are engaged with BEO's work, building allies across sectors and across BEO's programmes of work.
Working closely with fundraising, communications and public affairs and also with the Chief of Staff and CEO, develop a map of BEO stakeholders and maintain an overview.
Ensure the Senior Leadership Team and the board are regularly made aware of stakeholder feedback.
Ensure that we adopt an intersectional approach to our work.
Advise on trustee recruitment and board composition as required.
Lead on establishing the Black Excellence Network, ensuring diverse representation across a number of identity characteristics and also across sectors, professions, regional spread and drawing on Black people at different levels and stages of their careers.
Advise the communications team on key messages and content for stakeholder communications.
Across the team, provide insight for speeches, web content, briefings and reports as required.
Ensure that any donor relationships or insights are fed back to the partnerships and fundraising team for them to progress.
Team management and leadership
Grow the engagement and delivery team.
Line-manage the Youth Engagement Manager and other programme delivery staff and volunteers as required.
Promote BEO's culture of excellence.

Person Specification
Experience
Experience of Black community engagement, preferably with a grassroots community background.
Experience of co-designing projects or services with beneficiaries.
Experience of effective relationship management and careful stakeholder engagement.
Experience of developing credible anti-racism strategies and interventions.
Some experience of managing a team.
Abilities
A confident, relatable communicator who can engage a diverse range of audiences, is an active listener and who is persuasive and engaging.
A community organiser, someone who can bring people together around an issue or a campaign to organise and mobilise supporters.
A demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
A positive thinker who can bring energy and drive to a cause.
Political sensitivity and awareness.
A strong team player with a “can do” attitude.
Skills and knowledge
Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
A strong understanding of the Black community sector and of diverse Black communities in the UK.
Knowledge of Salesforce or another similar database would be an advantage.
