Job Description

This is an exciting time to join Climate Outreach as we have recently launched a new organisational strategy. This role will support across all of our fundraising, to diversify income and secure vital resources that will enable us to deliver impactful programs and initiatives in line with our strategy. As we expand our fundraising function, we are seeking a passionate, motivated and adaptable Fundraising Assistant to join our team.

The post holder will work closely with the Chief Income Officer and will identify opportunities, research and help with the preparation of proposals and reports to prospective and existing funders. You will also play a key role in developing engagement opportunities for all funders and be responsible for thanking our small to medium donors.

You will help build out robust systems and processes and play a key role as we move to a new CRM (customer relationship management) system. The Fundraising Assistant will ideally have some charity / NGO experience, particularly in the fundraising area. We welcome applications from those without direct fundraising experience but with transferable skills and experience.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to learn fundraising expertise and the rare opportunity to develop expertise in building a fundraising function for the organisation. You will receive mentoring-style guidance, support, and management from highly experienced fundraisers.

About Climate Outreach

Climate change affects us all, and involves us all. But all too often conversations about climate exclude and alienate people. We know people care about tackling climate change. And we know we need to act fast. Season after season of wild weather around the world leaves us in no doubt that climate change is happening here and now. At Climate Outreach we know people become the solution to the climate crisis when they’re invited into the conversation.

Our vision is for everyone to be involved in shaping a more sustainable, fairer world. So we are on a mission to ensure people trust, support and have a say in the changes we must make to tackle climate change. We aim to go beyond the green bubble by helping organisations communicate about climate change in ways that resonate with the sense of identity, values and worldview of their audiences.

For 20 years we’ve strived to understand how people engage with climate change. We’ve shared our pioneering insights to inspire great communication with diverse audiences globally. We’re trusted as experts by governments, international bodies, environmental groups and media organisations.

We are taking our research to other organisations and sectors - from businesses to housing to sport - to help them tell their own stories. We are supporting new storytellers. We are showing politicians and policy makers the importance of engaging people in climate policy making. And we are building our evidence base on great communications and public engagement with innovative research and insight. In everything we do, we value being collaborative, inclusive, curious and optimistic

To fulfil your responsibilities, you will need these skills and attributes:

  • You apply a growth mindset by being resilient, comfortable taking risks, making mistakes and learning from them

  • You are able and willing to work with people from different backgrounds

  • You take initiative and hold yourself and others accountable

  • You take responsibility for your workload management and developing your organisational skills

  • You have an aptitude and motivation for problem solving

  • You are willing to work with technological systems and solutions

  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to apply them appropriately in different contexts

  • You have the ability to research existing and prospective funders

  • You are interested and are willing to learn about our Theory of Change and work in line with our strategy

Diversity, equity and inclusion

Climate Outreach is committed to providing equal employment opportunity in all of its employment programs and decisions. We recognise that a diverse and inclusive movement is critical to solving climate change and that we must ensure that those directly impacted – particularly those who have been excluded in the past – are at the centre of the movement for change.

We do our best to make staff positions accessible to all potential team members, regardless of race, colour, national origin, ethnicity, age, disability, assigned gender, gender expression or identity, sexual orientation or identity, religion or creed, veteran status, and marital or parental status. We strive to recruit team members from communities most impacted by climate change or impacted by other kinds of environmental, social, and economic injustice. We therefore strongly encourage applications from people of colour, women, LGBTQ people and members of marginalised communities. Climate Outreach’s Oxford office is wheelchair accessible.

If you are invited to interview for the position, do let us know if you would like any carer's costs that you incurred due to attending this interview to be reimbursed.
