Job Description

Join us as we create a better employee experience

At Pyn, we help employees thrive by delivering timely and personalized communications. We do this by giving teams the tools and data they need to be proactive, rather than reactive, to employee needs. And we understand that employees need content that is personalized for their circumstances.

Our founders are Jon Williams and Joris Luijke. Jon previously co-founded Culture Amp. Joris helped scale the culture of Atlassian and Squarespace as their Head of People.

Pyn is backed by Accel and Andreessen Horowitz; investors in Slack, Atlassian, Asana, Dropbox, GitHub, Facebook and many more great companies.

Pyn originated in Sydney, Australia. However, we have employees and customers across the globe.

We work remotely and enjoy getting together if and when we can. Ideally, our employees have good overlap with the Australian Eastern or Pacific time zones.

The opportunity

You’ll be joining our founding Product Engineering team as our first Solutions Engineer. As a Solutions Engineer, reporting to our Head of Engineering Sebastian Froestl, you’ll play a fundamental role in making our customers successful and accelerating our growth.

In this role, you’ll work closely with our Customer Success and Sales teams to help prospects understand how Pyn works and guide them through a successful implementation process. You'll help solve customer's concerns and improve the Pyn application alongside our product engineering team.

The application uses React and GraphQL. The codebase is largely TypeScript and deployed on a server-less AWS infrastructure.

As Pyn grows, you’ll grow, working on improving the product and our processes to match demands. Depending on your own career aspirations there will be opportunities to support a growing team of Solutions Engineers or transitioning into the role of a Software Engineer.

Within 6 months, you will:

  • Work as a strategic partner with our Customer Success and Sales teams identifying and implementing improvements to make our new customers successful.

  • Provide feedback to our product engineering team by being the voice of the customer.

  • Support technical pre-sales conversations around data integration and setup.

  • Take full ownership of customer issues and see problems through to resolution.

  • Provide prompt and accurate feedback to customers.

Within one year, you will:

  • Proactively manage and prioritize a pipeline of feedback, fixes and improvements.

  • Contribute and code improvements and innovative solutions back to the product and our admin back end.

  • Use your blend of technical and business skills to understand complex use cases and find elegant, creative solutions.

We know the confidence gap and imposter syndrome can get in the way of meeting outstanding candidates. Research has also shown that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and other marginalized folks tend to only apply when they fulfill nearly all of the criteria. So if you think you have what it takes, but don't necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still get in touch — we’d love to hear from you.

Who succeeds in this role?

  • Someone who can conceptually understand and explain technical concepts and overall technologies in simple terms, such as how an API and backend/front end systems work.

  • Someone with solid knowledge in a programming language such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, php, python or comparable.

  • Someone who enjoys working in a remote working environment - meaning someone who enjoys working autonomously, documenting their work and processes, and can collaborate and communicate in an asynchronous working environment.

  • Someone who communicates proactively and is able to manage internal expectations as well as customer expectations.

  • Someone with a strong customer orientation.

  • Someone who is able to give and receive feedback.

What we offer

At Pyn, we understand that we do not exist in isolation. The company we build, the product we build, and how we build it has impacts that ripple out beyond us. We want to leave the world better than it was.

Therefore, we strive to make a better product and company by investing in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB). We’ve pledged 1% of sales to Pay the Rent. We pay to local, First Nations-led community organizations of the Gadigal people on Eora country, the place Pyn was lucky to be originated (also known as Sydney in Australia).

We seek to build a diverse team and diverse and inclusive practices because we know it will lead to a better product and a better world.

In addition, we offer:

  • Flexible working hours in a remote work environment.

  • A stipend to set up your home work station.

  • 12 weeks parental leave at full pay for primary carers and 6 weeks for non-primary carers (with an additional 8 weeks fully paid for both as they transition back into work part-time).

  • A stipend to spend on coaching, therapy, or mental-health resources.

  • Growth and development into a Software Engineer role (if desired).
