Job Description

About The Atmospheric Fund (TAF) and the Climate Policy Internship

Have you heard about TAF? We’re a regional climate agency that invests in low-carbon solutions for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) and helps scale them up for broad implementation. We are experienced leaders and collaborate with stakeholders in the private, public and non-profit sectors who have ideas and opportunities for reducing carbon emissions. We advance the most promising concepts by investing, providing grants, influencing policies and running programs.

Join TAF’s Climate Policy team to help shape evidence‑based policies that accelerate low‑carbon solutions across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Region. As a Junior Analyst, you’ll support policy research and engagement efforts that inform government decision‑making and advance key climate priorities.

What you’ll work on:

Policy Analysis & Development

  • Identify and document regulatory and administrative barriers that slow the adoption of low‑carbon solutions across municipalities in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Region.

  • Recommend practical policy and process improvements that help local governments accelerate building retrofits, expand renewable energy adoption, and strengthen building‑performance standards.

  • Review emerging provincial and federal policy proposals and summarize their implications for local governments, residents, and businesses.

Stakeholder Engagement & Outreach

  • Support outreach to municipal Councillors and staff by preparing briefing materials and helping maintain stakeholder lists for key TAF policy priorities.

  • Assist in tracking discussions and decisions across municipalities to help the team identify advocacy opportunities and emerging champions.

  • Contribute to meeting prep, note‑taking, and follow‑up to ensure stakeholders receive clear, well‑organized information that supports their decision‑making.

Research & Written Submissions

  • Conduct research that informs TAF’s submissions to municipal, provincial, and federal governments, including analyzing new policy proposals, funding programs, and regulatory changes as they arise.

  • Assist in drafting pre‑budget submissions across all levels of government, drawing on evidence of climate, economic, and public‑health benefits.

  • Help update policy backgrounders, fact sheets, and short explainer documents that support TAF’s advocacy and communication with partners.

Key details:

Compensation: $28/hour, plus financial support for wifi associated with work. A laptop will be provided.

Employment term:  full time (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) for approximately four months between May 4 – August 28. Flexible schedule and hours to be determined in consultation with your manager.

Location: Hybrid, with two days a week in TAF’s Toronto office (at Union Station). Some travel within the GTHA will be required (no vehicle required).

Perks:

  • Experience what it’s like to work in the climate sector, with a team of climate action professionals.

  • Enjoy socials, lunch & learns, training sessions and other staff-wide experiences.

  • Benefit from other hands-on learning and networking opportunities.

The kind of skills and experience we're looking for:

  • Studying or recently graduated from environmental studies, public policy, political science, planning, economics, or a related field.

  • Strong research and analytical abilities, including reviewing reports, policies, and regulatory information.

  • Clear, concise writing skills for briefs, summaries, and policy explanations.

  • Comfortable organizing information and using spreadsheets to track policies, stakeholders, and tasks.

  • Organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.

  • Interest in climate policy, government decision‑making, and practical low‑carbon solutions.

Applying to intern at TAF:

We know that strong candidates bring a range of experiences that may not line up perfectly with every requirement. If this role excites you and you believe you’d be a great fit, we encourage you to apply.

Indigenous applicants are encouraged to apply.

Our application process uses two short, job‑related questions in an anonymized platform so we can focus on your skills and approach. If you need accommodations, email jobs@taf.ca.

Please do not use AI to generate your responses. Our team reads every submission, and AI‑written answers tend to blend together, making it harder to get a sense of you. Using your own words gives you the fairest shot, and it also makes our reviewers (your potential future colleagues!) much happier.

We review anonymized responses first, then we look at résumés. Top candidates will be invited to interviews and a brief assessment. Everyone will hear back once the process concludes.

We will begin reviewing applications on a rolling basis starting March 26 and may close the posting early if we have enough qualified candidates, so we encourage applicants to apply early
