Job Description

The National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) is seeking a motivated and organized AmeriCorps Program Coordinator to lead the planning and development of NOLS’ new AmeriCorps State and National program in partnership with Serve Wyoming.

This position will lay the groundwork for a sustainable AmeriCorps program that creates opportunities for young adults to build leadership skills, gain credentials for Wyoming’s growing outdoor recreation industry, and serve their local communities as peer mentors and outreach volunteers. The Program Coordinator will develop systems, partnerships, and funding strategies to ensure a successful program launch in September 2026.

What does a AmeriCorps Program Coordinator do?

Program Planning and Development

  • Lead implementation of the AmeriCorps planning grant, ensuring all goals, timelines, and Serve Wyoming/AmeriCorps requirements are met.

  • Design and draft the traditional cost reimbursement grant application to secure operational AmeriCorps funding for 2026 and beyond.

  • Develop recruitment, onboarding, training, supervision, and evaluation systems for future AmeriCorps members.

  • Coordinate with NOLS leadership and staff to align the AmeriCorps program with NOLS’ mission and Wyoming’s workforce needs.

  • Develop data collection, tracking, and evaluation systems in collaboration with NOLS information technology staff.

Community Outreach and Partnerships

  • Build and strengthen partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and stakeholders in Lander and surrounding rural towns.

  • Engage local leaders and organizations to identify meaningful service opportunities for AmeriCorps members in peer mentorship, school support, and community outreach.

  • Promote the AmeriCorps program to potential applicants through local outreach and marketing efforts.

Program Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensure the program is designed in compliance with all AmeriCorps and Serve Wyoming policies and regulations.

  • Track planning grant outcomes and prepare required reports.

  • Maintain clear documentation to support grant reporting and audits.

Collaboration and Internal Coordination

  • Work closely with the VP of Expeditions, Special Projects Coordinator, Chief of Staff, campus directors, marketing, enrollment, and IT staff to develop program infrastructure.

  • Coordinate with other NOLS departments to leverage existing resources and tools to support AmeriCorps program success.

Other Duties

  • Support additional planning, community engagement, and outreach activities as needed to strengthen program design and sustainability.

  • Prepare for supervision of AmeriCorps members once the program transitions to operational phase.

What makes a great AmeriCorps Program Coordinator at NOLS?

  • Experience with AmeriCorps, national service programs, or grant-funded program management strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of or experience in outdoor leadership, experiential education, or community engagement a plus.

  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills.

  • Experience working with schools, youth, or community groups in rural areas is desirable.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain partnerships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.

  • Familiarity with federal grant compliance and reporting is a plus.

  • Ability to travel within Lander and surrounding communities as needed.
