Job Description
Summary
We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them.
Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Project Coordinator (MEND).
This is a Part Time, Fixed-Term Contract until 31st March 2026, working 18 hours a week.
The location of this role is National where we offer hybrid working, you will be based in one of our following offices and from home - Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth (Fort Cumberland) and Cambridge.
Salary
National: £24,208 - £25,374 pro-rata
Greater London+: £25,861 - £27,102 pro-rata

What you will be doing
This job sits within Historic England’s Programmes Department, which has responsibility for managing major programmes and projects of organisationally significant areas of work. Programmes sit in the Business Improvement Group, a dynamic part of Historic England that ensures Historic England is an adaptable, fundable and sustainable organisation that delivers for heritage by facilitating joined up working, inspiring, challenging and equipping people, nurturing innovation and productivity, managing grant spend and growing income.
This role involves working closely with Project and Programme Managers at all levels within Historic England to provide project, programme and administrative support. It will particularly contribute to the delivery of the Museums Estate and Development (MEND) fund. MEND is an open-access capital fund targeted at non-national Accredited museums and local authorities based in England to apply for funding to undertake vital infrastructure and urgent maintenance backlogs which are beyond the scope of day-to-day maintenance budgets. It is overseen by the Arts Council England (ACE) with support from Historic England.
Who we are looking for
Substantial experience of administrative work in an office environment.
Demonstrable ability to prioritise and deliver to deadlines.
Ability to assimilate data and understand complex business processes.
A team player but capable of working with minimum supervision and guidance.
