About Ashden
Ashden boosts climate innovation in the UK and Global South. Our support brings clean energy to villages and refugee camps and fixes up cold and draughty homes. It makes schools more sustainable and helps communities protect and restore the nature around them.
About the Role
Are you passionate about climate justice in the Global South? We’re recruiting an international programme officer to support the trailblazers delivering clean, affordable energy solutions to communities around the world.
Supporting delivery of some of our new and upcoming programmes, you will work with colleagues and external stakeholders to help renewable energy pioneers in the Global South to reach new funder and investor audiences, and ultimately secure finance to strengthen and scale their solutions. These solutions could range from solar-powered cold storage for food and medicines to cookstoves tackling toxic air pollution, or electric two and three wheelers to help people bring their goods to market. As well as coordinating the initiative, you will build and strengthen relationships with partner organisations and help devise strategies for increasing investment and influencing key stakeholders in their policy development.
You will report to the Head of International Programmes.
What you might find yourself doing:
The Ashden Awards are the highlight of the year – as a key part of delivering the Awards which bring grants, publicity and networking opportunities to climate innovators, your work will include:
Assessing applications
Working with potential award winners
Promoting the Awards
Bringing our winners together to learn and support each other
You will also:
Deliver online and in-person events
Help secure funding for Ashden’s work
Contribute to the implementation of our new five-year strategy
Support our communications and events work
Share insights from your work with the team and external stakeholders
About You
You’ll thrive in this role if you:

Understand environment and sustainable development issues across the Global South
Have specific knowledge of themes such as energy access, enterprise development, investment and climate finance
Are willing to take accountability and work in a self-managed way
Would like to grow your experiences, skills and contribute to the organisation while doing so
Are not afraid to try new things and reflect openly on successes and failures
It is also desirable (but not necessary) for you to have:
Experience of planning and deliver in person and online events
Experience with MS Office Suite systems

How to apply
Taking note: research shows that while men tend to apply for jobs when they meet around 60% of the criteria, women and marginalised people tend to only apply when they check every box. So, if you think you have what it takes, but don't necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still apply.
