Job Description

Project Description:

  • The selected engineer will be responsible for conducting Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations focusing on hypersonic flow phenomena. This will involve analysing complex fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and aerodynamic interactions in hypersonic regimes. The data generated will support our AI and Optimisation team in developing innovative solutions for aerospace applications, such as next-generation propulsion systems and high-speed vehicles.

Applicant Specification:

  • The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in CFD, with a focus on hypersonics. Proficiency in API based CFD software packages (e.g., PyFluent, OpenFOAM) is required, along with experience in mesh generation and post-processing techniques. Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively are essential. Prior experience in aerospace or related industries is advantageous but not essential.

Minimum requirements:

  • Carrying out their third year (or higher) of bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in CFD software packages such as OpenFOAM or APIs such as PyFluent.

  • Experience in conducting CFD simulations, particularly in hypersonic flow regimes.

  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and aerodynamics.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Desirable: Master's degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering or related field.

  • Desirable: Prior experience in aerospace or high-speed vehicle research.

  • Desirable: Familiarity with optimisation techniques and AI-driven approaches in engineering.

Process details:

  • 10 weeks minimum fixed term contract to be agreed with successful candidate

  • In-person Induction Event and an in-person/hybrid Showcase Event

  • 5 days holiday to be taken during the placement
