We are searching for a Senior Trusts and Foundations Officer to work with the Trusts and Foundations Manager to grow Turn2us’ income from grant funding. This role will sit within the wider Philanthropy and Partnerships Team, which will provide opportunities to gain experience working on multiple income lines including Major Donor funding and Corporate Partnerships.

The ideal person for this role may have experience working within the charity sector in a relationship management role and have exceptional knowledge of how to work with Trust and Foundations to generate income. Key skills include bid writing or creative writing, analytical skills to deliver impact reports and excellent communication and relationship management skills.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Expert in relationship led income generation.

  • Exceptional track record of independently securing and stewarding income.

  • Experience leading on complex funding applications (statutory funding would be a bonus).

  • Experience working with senior management to secure and steward income.

  • Collaborative and reliable team member.

  • Excellent communicator and relationship builder. 

  • Demonstrable understanding of the UK Trusts and Foundations landscape.

We offer flexible working patterns, both in terms of hours and remote working. Please note that all employees are required to work from the office a minimum of 4 days a month on a weekly basis.

Some roles may be required to be in the office more often than others and this will be agreed with the hiring manager upon starting at Turn2us.

Job Description

Job Title: Senior Trusts and Foundations Officer

Department: Income Generation, Income & External Affairs Directorate

Reports to: Trusts and Foundations Manager

Location: Hybrid: Turn2us London Hub (Farringdon) & homeworking

Type of role: Full-time, permanent

Purpose of the Role:

To generate income from Trusts and Foundations and steward long-term relationships with funders

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

1.     Support the planning and implementation of Turn2us’ Trusts and Foundation applications programme.

2.     Target and approach new, lapsed and existing donating Trusts and Foundations according to their interests and priorities.

3.     Using a relationship-led approach build deep, meaningful relationships with Trusts & Foundations and the individuals behind them.

Duties:

1. Support the planning and implementation of Turn2us’ Trusts and Foundation applications programme:

  • Supporting the Trust & Foundation Manager to plan Turn2us’ Trusts and Foundations income strategy and programme.

  • Maintain the pipeline of funders.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the funding landscape and potential opportunities.

  • Scope and maintain new income generation external platforms and channels.

  • Work with colleagues to apply insight to inform and create compelling appeals or applications.

2. Target and approach new, lapsed and existing Trusts and Foundations according to their interests and priorities using a systematic approach:

  • Maintaining an accurate schedule of timely grant applications using our CRM system, Beacon.

  • Writing and adapt compelling bids and applications that include a strong case for support and funding budgets.

  • Ensuring that existing trust funders are kept up to date   with timely reports, insight and other cultivation opportunities to build and maintain strong relationships.

3. Build relationships internally and externally to support the growth of Income at Turn2us:

  • Build excellent relationships with colleagues in all directorates, to gather information, insight and content to support income generation for programmes and core activities and respond to new fundraising opportunities.

  • Work with colleagues to prepare full cost recovery budgets to meet funders requirements.

  • Work with colleagues in the Philanthropy & Partnerships team to identify cross-collaborative opportunities where Trusts and Foundations opportunities intersect with Corporate Fundraising and Philanthropy.

  • Take a relationship-led approach to form deep, meaningful relationships with Trusts & Foundations and the individuals that are involved in them.

These are the normal duties, which the Charity requires from the position. However, it is necessary for all staff to be flexible and all employees will be required from time to time to perform other duties as may be required by the Charity for the efficient running of the charity. This Job Description is non-contractual. It will be reviewed from time to time and may be subject to change.

  • Comprehensive up-to-date understanding of generating substantial income through effective relationship management with partner organisations, eg: Trusts, statutory, lottery etc.

  • Empathy with Turn2us’ vision and its services to people and organisations.

  • Good understanding of fundraising techniques, best practice and relevant legislation.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of fundraising databases.

  • Knowledge of the field of social welfare.

Experience

Necessary:

  • Experience of generating income from Trusts and Foundations, statutory or lottery sources.

  • Database skills including experience of using relational databases.

  • Research experience.

  • Software systems and applications including MS Office.
