Job Description

Project Description:

The business will be procuring injection moulded mandrels from an external supplier. These parts will then be used to produce removable mandrels for waveguides. The project has to develop the manufacturing process, learning from other waveguide projects in the business. A new metal fog silver nitrate process booth, acetone flushing system and a 3D QA scanner will be purchased and needs to be set up within our facility. Prototype waveguides will need to be manufactured and the process developed to deliver parts to Airbus for testing. The SPINturn can be involved with the following activities under supervision;

- assist with setting up new manufacturing equipment

- measure incoming parts and compare vs CAD, identifying and out of tolerance dimensions

- engaging with external suppliers

- measure surface roughness and compare against the Airbus specification

- assist with electroforming electroding, jigging and manufacture, defining the process control parameters

- remove parts from the process, dissolve polymer mandrel

- inspect and measure final parts against specifications

- recommended process improvements to meet specification and production rate

Minimum requirements:

The candidate will likely either have or be on track for a good degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials Science or a related degree. Minimum requirements would be they have finished their second year of the degree They would be able to commute to our facility near Basingstoke. During interview we would also consider the following. We are looking for someone interested in Space manufacturing. They need to be diligent, mature and sensible given we are working in robotics and electrodeposition chemistry. We are developing new product so having a methodical approach to working through problems would be an advantage. We are a relatively small team so fitting in to our team would also be required.

Process details:

  • 8 weeks minimum fixed term contract to be agreed with successful candidate

  • In-person Induction Event to be held, and an in-person/hybrid Showcase Event to be held later in the year.

  • Optional 5 days holiday can be taken during the placement
