ABOUT THE TEAM  

The UNICEF in Scotland team seeks to secure financial support from high value partners (Philanthropists, Foundations and Corporations). The team works holistically to fundraise across these three areas, and has ambitious growth targets for the next 5 years. This role will play a key part in enabling even greater results for children, by fundraising and by providing excellent engagement and stewardship opportunities to UNICEF in Scotland’s existing and prospective major supporters.  

UNICEF in Scotland is a small but ambitious team that forms part of the Partnerships and Philanthropy Directorate. The team is looking to expand and innovate in all its high value fundraising activities to attract new supporters and grow our longstanding partnerships in 2024 and beyond. 

ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Philanthropy Fundraising Manager will join a team of high-performing colleagues aiming to maximise income through fundraising for UNICEF in Scotland, by building high value relationships with new donors and enhancing existing partnerships.  

What we will expect you to achieve 

  • Develop strategic funding relationships with new and existing philanthropic supporters, asking them at the right time for financial support and providing them with the highest level of stewardship and supporter care. 

  • Offer bespoke communication and presentation of UNICEF’s work to donors, ranging from short, concise descriptions of emergency work to in-depth analytical explanations of UNICEF’s work in complex areas of development. 

  • With support from public engagement, research colleagues and the data team, seek deeper insight into prospects’ motivations, networks, and capacity to maximise chances of engagement. 

  • Manage and maintain an accurate and up-to-date donor database that ensures donors to UNICEF in Scotland receive bespoke engagement and communications, that conform to the General Data Protection Regulation. 

  • Designing and delivering bespoke high-level stewardship events and activities for the UNICEF in Scotland donor community.  

  • Collaborate with UNICEF UK Public Engagement colleagues to research, test, and trial specific Scottish public engagement products.  

  • Manage guest invitations and guest lists for Scottish supporter events. Manage the SRM for event attendees and be the SRM lead for events for the Scotland team. 

  • Take forward specialist projects as required by the Director of UNICEF in Scotland and support the wider working of the UNICEF in Scotland Team. 

  • Work alongside colleagues, senior volunteers and the Scottish Advisory Board to identify potential philanthropic donors, open new networks of financial supporters and ensure the most effective approaches are made to secure funds.

Relevant experience 

  • Experience of securing funds, and managing high quality relationships with philanthropic supporters, successfully asking face-to-face for significant financial support. 

  • Experience of planning and executing donor engagement and stewardship events. 

  • Experience of working across multiple projects at one time, engaging colleagues and stakeholders at multiple levels.   

  • Knowledge and understanding of philanthropic motivations, giving mechanisms, and fundraising strategies. 

  • Experience of working with as part of a busy team and with senior staff and volunteers to achieve success. 

Specific knowledge and skills

  • Able to manage donor information using electronic systems (e.g. Salesforce)

Specific Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the current Scottish philanthropic landscape and insight into future trends. 

  • Understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals and international development would be an advantage.
