Job Description

We are the public body that looks after England’s historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them.

Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Policy Adviser (Listing) as part of our Heritage Protection Team.

The location of this role is National where we offer hybrid working, you will be based in one of our following offices and from home - Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth and Cambridge. 

Salary

National: £30,155 -£31,912 pro-rata

Greater London+: £33,356 - £35,301 pro-rata

What you will be doing

As part of Historic England’s Heritage Protection Team, you’ll support the Senior Listing Policy Adviser and other colleagues to review and develop policy and guidance about the National Heritage List for England (the NHLE).  You’ll also prepare briefings, undertake research and develop and coordinate strategic projects to assist the development of the NHLE.

Your work will support the organisation’s wider objective to improve the quality, consistency and speed of designation decisions, whilst also ensuring the social and economic value of heritage and its role in making successful places is fully realised.

  • Experience working or volunteering in the museums, culture or heritage sectors

  • A commitment to inclusion, diversity and equality and to ensuring heritage is accessible and inclusive

  • Ability to work independently when required and manage a varied workload with tight deadlines

  • Ability to build positive relationships and work with colleagues in different areas of the organisation as well as external stakeholders

  • Experience in managing or co-ordinating projects

  • Ability to write well for different audiences
