Job Description

As the Marketing & Account Manager for Custom Education, you will a) cultivate and manage a diverse portfolio of long-term client relationships to advance the school’s mission and b) support business development efforts with prospective new clients. This is an exciting time to join the team and focus on growth within our high-potential market segments (e.g. business schools, summer camps, secondary schools, university scholar programs, etc.). We’re looking for an innovative, curious, passionate go-getter and team player who’s excited to partner closely with our long-term clients and help share NOLS Custom Education’s unique value proposition to prospective clients.

Location: Remote or NOLS Headquarter in Lander, WY

Start date: Fall  2024

Occasional evening and weekend work may be expected

What does the Marketing & Account Manager do?

Your potential for driving impact:

  • Manage portfolio of long-term clients

    • Work with Custom Education clients to design, contract, and oversee customized NOLS programming

    • Track and document key information (contracts, program logistics, etc.) in a consistent and organized manner

    • Work with a customer service team of two to three Custom Education employees to manage course logistics with NOLS campuses and outside sponsors

    • Support NOLS Custom Education courses by providing client orientations for these programs and participating in the debriefing process with the intent of communicating outcomes directly with clients. Remotely brief and debrief instructor teams for field-based courses.       

  • Support Custom Education’s business development

    • Manage and track progress of inbound leads from prospective clients

    • Lead scoping calls with prospective clients and develop program proposals 

    • Support outbound outreach campaigns to high potential market segments

    • Develop marketing collateral 

    • Use HubSpot and other CRM databases to maintain client information

    • Potentially travel 1-3 times per year for NOLS Custom Education for visits with clients, campuses, and/or to attend conferences

    • Support cross-selling of other Custom Education course offerings (e.g. Risk Management Training for Administrators, Risk Reviews, Leave No Trace) and broader NOLS offerings (e.g. Wilderness Medicine)

  • Join Custom Education’s collaborative team

    • Cultivate strong networks within NOLS, working across NOLS departments to support the NOLS mission

    • Serve in the on-call rotation

  • Work as NOLS classroom faculty and/or field faculty, as applicable

    • Teach leadership programs and/or serve as frontcountry or online course facilitator.

    • For qualified NOLS faculty, this position has flexibility for field work and classroom teaching in the range of 2-4 weeks per year, approved on a case by case basis, depending on performance, schedule, and workload.

  • High attention to detail when drafting pricing proposals and client contracts

  • Understanding of sales and marketing strategies and strong customer relationship management skills

  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office, customer relationship management software, and other web-based applications

  • Experience building positive learning environments that provide appropriate support and challenge

  • Commitment to NOLS' mission and values, and to NOLS as a learning organization

In your first 6 months, you will: 

  • Take on a portfolio of existing NOLS clients and support getting their students enrolled and ready to participate in an expedition

  • Manage and track inbound leads from prospective clients (via email, phone calls, referrals)

  • Collaborate with the Associate Director, Business Development on launching an outbound outreach strategy to prospective clients, and create marketing collateral

  • Create and launch a quarterly email to clients and prospective leads highlighting updates and client stories from Custom Education

  • Have the opportunity to shadow a NOLS course (within the first 12 months), if not an existing NOLS field faculty member; depending on performance, schedule, and workload.
