Job Description

We’re excited to be hiring an electrical engineer with experience in the UK electricity grid and electrical systems of renewable power plants. We recognise that some applicants may have more of a grid background or more of an electrical engineering background and whilst we are ideally looking for people with a good understanding of HV power connections (and ideally with experience in the UK), we would encourage you to apply even if your expertise is more limited to electrical engineering or grid connections in the UK or in other countries.

  • Package: A competitive salary related to your experience, plus pension scheme, annual profit share and route into company ownership.

  • Deadline for applications: 23rd February 2024.

  • Location: Anywhere. We offer hybrid working at any of our offices: https://everoze.com/contact-us/. Whilst we encourage staff to work from one of our offices in the interest of shared culture and learning, we are also open to home working for the right applicant.

  • Hours: Normal office hours with a healthy level of flexibility. Preference for 5 days per week but will consider candidates who would prefer part-time options.

Everoze is different

We’re more than just a technical and commercial consultancy, specialising in renewables, storage, green hydrogen and wider energy flexibility. We live our values. We’re passionate about accelerating the transition to a decarbonised energy system. We have no bosses or formal hierarchy. We are free to pursue opportunities that deliver our strategy. We take ownership of our own development and support one another along the way. Our pay is transparent and set by our peers. We, the employees, own the company and we share a portion of our profits equally. We believe that a strong and healthy work life needs a strong and healthy home life. We encourage flexible working practices for all to be there for the kids’ swim lessons, a favourite hobby, or learning new skills.

We’re OK with being different. Everoze isn’t for everyone. But it might just be for you… Find out more on our website: https://everoze.com/jobs

Your role

You will primarily provide grid consultancy and electrical engineering services to project developers, investors, lenders or operators mainly in the UK, but also supporting our core markets in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Germany as well as other markets from time to time.

NOTE: We understand that some great applicants may not excel across all of the below criteria. We are willing to support people who have a great fit with the Everoze culture, who are passionate about what we do, and who have great strengths in a sub-set of the below fields.

Specific activities will include:

  • Review of grid documentation issued by DNOs or TSOs, including grid curtailment studies;

  • Review of power systems studies (i.e. load flow and short circuit) and grid compliance studies of renewable projects connected to the UK transmission or distribution networks;

  • Support with grid connection and compliance issues at development, construction, and operational stages, including review of commissioning test results;

  • Review of employers’ requirements for renewable energy projects (electrical elements), in particular for the AC and DC systems of PV and battery power plants;

  • Review of earthing studies and earthing & lightning design of renewable & battery storage projects;

  • Design review of  HV & LV electrical systems of renewable & battery storage projects. This could be at a high level or more detailed level and could be for pre-construction or operational projects, usually as part of due diligence or owner’s engineering services;

  • Design review of the electrical losses performed during the energy yield assessments of PV power plants (i.e. transformer, cable, & OHL losses);

  • Support expansion in new areas in the UK and in Everoze’s core markets: building the Everoze business line with new client groups (e.g. DSOs), or into new areas;

  • Managing subcontractors, performing project management roles, and carrying out site inspections while developing punch lists and subsequent as-built document reviews.

Everoze works across multiple technologies and there is potential to specialise in your areas of interest or to broaden your expertise: We encourage you to take ownership of your career.

We would like to hear from you if you meet the following requirements

We are looking for someone who is motivated to take the next step in their career by leveraging their experience and knowledge to help clients build out successful projects and accelerate the clean energy transition. If you love the role and can demonstrate your ability to apply your strengths and adapt to new fields, we encourage you to apply.

Ethos:

  • You share our core beliefs of entrepreneurship, partnership and quality;

  • You are self-motivated and will take advantage of the autonomy to shape your own career;

  • You want to use your skills to change our energy system for the better;

  • You’re friendly and enjoy working with other competent and responsible people.

Essential skills and qualifications:

  • Electrical engineering university education, or equivalent through experience

  • Experience with power generation projects connected to HV grids

  • Familiarity with connection process/requirements for UK transmission and distribution networks

  • High level knowledge of BS, EN and other international HV and LV standards

  • Ability to review site electrical documentation, and ideally also visit projects, compile punch lists, and coordinate responses.

Soft skills required for the position:

  • Track record of communicating electrical engineering to non-electrical specialists

  • Project experience with solar PV and/or other renewable energy projects

  • Ability and aptitude to teach/mentor others on electrical engineering

  • Able to write clear, concise and accurate reports in fluent English

  • Commercial awareness with ability to dive into the detail only when necessary

  • Experience of managing subcontractors or otherwise of managing a team

  • Project management experience and appetite (also including managing areas outside direct expertise, and ability to PM technical due diligence work in particular)

Nice-to-haves, but not essential:

  • Bigger picture awareness of:

    • Evolving connection process and compliance requirements for GB distribution and transmission connections

    • Power system development and change

  • Ability to develop, bring in and build new business

  • Familiarity with construction contracts typically used in developing renewable energy projects

  • Experience/competence in grid curtailment and constraint modelling and/or interpretation of such studies

  • Familiarity with connection process for transmission and distribution in other Everoze core markets: France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Ireland and other markets.

  • Experience of writing electrical elements of Employers Requirements for renewable energy projects

  • Strong organizational, networking & personal skills

  • Additional language skills (desirable: Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian).
