Job Description

About the role

We are looking for a pro-active and strong communicator to develop and deliver compelling personal stories from across SSAFA’s network and varied charitable services. Your work will be crucial to telling the story of who we help and the difference we make in nearly 60,000 people’s lives every year.

Based within the PR team, you will work closely with the Case Study Manager and PR colleagues to raise SSAFA’s profile and improve how different audiences understand our work and impact. Your interviews and writing will feature prominently across the business as a vital part of the charity’s marketing and communications. In doing so, you will develop expertise in the impact of storytelling and how this raises awareness of the vital work that we provide.

You will build a network across the organisation at the local, regional, and national levels and have broad exposure to the charity’s operations. This is an exciting opportunity that requires strong interpersonal and writing skills to produce high-impact content.

 About the team

The PR team is a small, dynamic group of individuals with strong skillsets across press release and article writing, interviewing, pitching, and campaign planning. The team is a mix of people with military and non-military backgrounds. They are constantly sharing knowledge and expertise with each other.

You will work closely across all directorates within SSAFA to gather information and develop case studies across regions and services. In doing so, you will collaborate with teams that work with both SSAFA supporters and beneficiaries, enabling a comprehensive view of the charity.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Degree level education or equivalent work experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience working in a press office or PR team; or with background in journalism or writing

  • Experience of interviewing or working with vulnerable people preferable
