We’re looking for someone who gets immense satisfaction bringing order to chaos. This person loves solving problems – big problems, small problems, difficult problems, trivial problems, glamorous problems, uncool problems – where the ultimate satisfaction is cheerfully crushing a big to-do list faster than anyone thought possible.

We’re building Avo to transforms how companies around the world treat their analytics. We have offices in San Francisco and Reykjavik, Iceland. We are a small team growing into a distributed, global team with a remote work culturea, which means our operations base is an important foundation that we need to nurture in order to match our vision. To start, we need someone who can own all of the auxiliary areas of Avo - areas including managing finances, managing the office, helping with recruiting, helping with special projects, etc.

As grand as that may sound, in practice in means everything from helping manage financial models to taking out the garbage; from helping to prepare board reports, to making sure our phone bill is paid; from winning grants to taking care of the commute benefits package for our growing team; from helping recruit our next superstar teammate to making sure we don’t run out of toilet paper.

(If only half the things in that list appeal to you, then this might not be the right fit. We need someone who will want to tackle even the most mundane stuff because they realize that doing these mundane things will make everything else easier. We believe that taking pride in small things makes big things possible.)

What’s the opportunity? 🤔

As the first member of the BizOps team, you’ll be working closely with the CEO and management team to (1) get a massive amount of sh*t done, while at the same time (2) building out our administrative and operational base.

What will I be doing? 🚀

  • Responsible for strategic, tactical, financial, operational, analytical support for a wide variety of business planning and operations functions. This means, for example, working closely with the product and marketing teams to map out CAC, LTV, and tie those into budgeting and funding plans.

  • Manage finances, grants, and budgeting to ensure a healthy and predictable financial situation at least 6-12 months in the future.

  • Help with all team/culture functions, including recruitment, on-boarding, and planning regular team events.

  • Conduct and oversee everything in relation to our office, non-tech systems, supplies, snacks, etc.

  • Optimize processes to ensure Avo runs smoothly and with the lowest possible administrative overhead.

  • Grow with the role. As the overall team grows, you’ll hire and lead a team of BizOps people to help keep the trains running on time.

What skills and traits do I need? 📚

  • Strong mindset for getting stuff done, no matter how abstract or mundane the task.

  • Methodical, loves spreadsheets, obsessive about order and anti-loose ends.

  • Experience with financial modeling / analysis / budgeting in a professional environment.

  • Excellent verbal communication, presentation, collaboration and teamwork skills with the ability to gain trust and consensus.

  • Willing and able to work in a remote culture and communicate in writing.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a cross-functional team.

  • Relentless cleverness and resourcefulness to get things done quickly and inexpensively.

  • Hunger to prove yourself in perhaps the toughest / least predictable of all operational environments (i.e. a quickly growing startup).

  • Bonus for:

    • Startup experience a MAJOR plus, especially in the $1M - $10M ARR range.

    • Experience with leveraging user behavior analytics to answer questions, for example, through building charts in Amplitude or querying SQL databases.

What do I get? 😍

  • Join a high-performing, fast-moving, international startup, backed by world-class investors, including Y Combinator, Heavybit and GGV.

  • A company culture comprised of mutual respect, no politics, and all hands on deck.

  • Teammates that care about continuous improvement — for themselves and the company.

  • Top-of-the-line equipment.

  • A remote-friendly culture.

  • The opportunity to learn a lot and grow with us.
