Historic England have a fantastic opportunity for you to join us as our Head of Portfolio Development.

This is a Full Time, Permanent post.

Salary is dependent on location.

National £52,765 per annum

Greater London+ £54,390 per annum

Inner London £57,714 per annum

The location of this role is National where we offer hybrid working, you will be based in one of our following offices and from home - London, Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth (Fort Cumberland) and Cambridge.

What you will be doing

As a key member of the Portfolio Development & Delivery (Portfolio) department, you will work closely with the Head of Portfolio Development & Delivery to lead the development of a unified portfolio of work including a delivery pipeline underpinning the corporate plan, driving strategic alignment and benefits management enabling compliance with the Government Functional Standard GovS002 Project Delivery.

Working with team colleagues and senior leaders across the organisation, you will drive the development of new initiatives, from initial triage and Treasury Green Book business case development to mobilisation, ensuring benefits management is embedded from the start.  

The role sits within Business Improvement Group, a dynamic part of Historic England committed to enabling innovative delivery, developing Historic England as an organisation and focusing its performance.

Who we are looking for

  • Proven experience in portfolio and pipeline development and leadership in a complex, large scale organisational environment.

  • Experience of developing or leading Treasury Green Book business cases

  • Experience of developing or leading an approach to benefits management in a complex organisation

  • Experience of mobilising delivery teams at pace

  • Strong financial and commercial acumen, including experience in income generation and new business development.

  • Accreditation in Better Business Cases™ Foundation, Management of Portfolios (MoP™) or relevant experience to obtain this accreditation.

  • Strong problem-solver with ability to deal with pressure and challenge

  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage at an executive level.
