Job Description
Surfing England are currently on the lookout for a committed individual to fill the role of Chair of the Board. This role is integral to leading the Board and establishing a constructive environment that enables them to achieve their potential and secure their long-term success.
Home-based, voluntary role
Time commitment of approximately 12 days per year
Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses covered
The Role:
As the Chair of the Board, your key responsibilities will include:
Leading the Board and ensuring its effectiveness in setting and implementing our organisation's direction and strategy.
Chairing productive Board and general meetings, creating purposeful agendas and ensuring accurate information is provided in a timely manner.
Encouraging open dialogue among Directors, promoting consensus-building and ensuring all members are involved in discussions and decision-making.
Taking a proactive approach to managing conflicts of interest in accordance with the Articles of the Board.
Determining the structure and composition of the Board, carrying out regular reviews of its size, balance of skills and diversity.
Supporting Board members in establishing the organisation's vision, mission, and values, setting and implementing its strategy, and reviewing and evaluating its plans and policies.
Ensuring the integrity of financial information and controls, reviewing budgets and financial information to be published, and scrutinising the performance of management.
Accounting to Surfing England’s stakeholders and Members for the organisation's performance, ensuring its long-term wellbeing and succession planning.
The Candidate:
As the Chair of the Board, we are looking for someone who has:
A visible passion and commitment to Surfing England, its strategic aims and purpose.
The ability and willingness to commit time to conduct the role well, including travel and attending events during evenings and weekends.
A background in taking organisations through growth and change.
A willingness to use and lever a strong network.
Commercial experience and a solid demonstrable track record in helping organisations generate revenue and attract investment.
Surfing England, are passionate about promoting and developing the sport of surfing. They work tirelessly to create a positive and inclusive environment for all their members and stakeholders.
