About the role

The role of Researcher at Jigsaw is to contribute to the delivery of high quality research, evaluation and strategy within Jigsaw’s core sector focus areas and to gradually develop significant expertise in one or more of these areas. To produce fluent and well structured contributions to written reports and to confidently handle client interactions. To be a valuable member of a passionate and vibrant team that loves to interact with different communities across the world and represent them in their day to day work.

The role is ideally based in London, however we are open to the post holder being located elsewhere in the UK with regular travel to the London office, and internationally for research visits.

Responsibilities 

The following form the core responsibilities of the Researcher role:

  • Supporting proposal development for potential new projects

  • Co-designing quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods methodologies

  • Collecting data, both face-to-face and remotely

  • Cleaning, validating and analysing data

  • Writing reports and presentations for a variety of audiences

  • Presenting research findings for a variety of internal and external audiences

  • Collaborating with Jigsaw partners and clients on data collection where relevant

  • Input into Jigsaw’s internal work by:

    • Contributing to all relevant internal meetings

    • Being responsible for an area of Jigsaw’s internal work

Outcomes 

  • High quality research products delivered within time and budget limitations

  • Written products submitted to 75% completion level, requiring minimal input from senior team members

  • Jigsaw methodological and analytical tools used competently

  • A growing expertise in one of Jigsaw Consult’s core technical focus areas

  • Project related primary data gathering undertaken competently

  • Monthly billable target of 80% achieved

  • One area of Jigsaw’s internal work given ownership and direction within the first 12 months

About you

We are looking for candidates who posses the following skills, competencies and experiences:

  • Experience of research design methodologies

  • An ability to speak and write clearly and articulately, maintaining this in all forms of communication.

  • An ability to manage a complex workload under pressure and with competing deadlines

  • Adaptability and an ability to work within a small team in a fast paced environment

  • Problem solving skills

  • Collaboration skills

  • A high aptitude for learning 

  • Attention to detail

  • Coachability, a willingness to grow, soliciting feedback and reacting calmly to constructive feedback.

  • Integrity, earning trust and maintaining confidences

In addition, the following skills, competencies and experiences are desirable:

  • Experience of innovative, qualitative and quantitative research design methodologies, such as mixed methods, quasi-experimental, participatory, case study or process evaluation methods.

  • Experience of qualitative analysis and qualitative data analysis software

  • Quantitative analysis skills with experience of inferential statistics

  • Experience of living, studying or working in a country of the Global South

  • Arabic language proficiency

  • Experience of delivering training - both face-to-face and online

  • Expertise in one of the four core technical focus areas of Jigsaw’s work

What we offer

  • Salary of £24 - £32K depending on your experience

  • Role is permanent -  full-time, 37.5 hour week

  • 25 days holiday (pro-rata) plus bank holidays
