Job Description

We are recruiting for a Communications Coordinator (Content and Digital Platforms)!

About Nesta

We are Nesta, the UK’s innovation agency for social good. We design, test and scale solutions to society’s biggest problems. Our three missions are to give every child a fair start, help people live healthy lives, and create a sustainable future where the economy works for both people and the planet.

For over 20 years, we have worked to support, encourage and inspire innovation. We work in three roles: as an innovation partner working with frontline organisations to design and test new solutions, as a venture builder supporting new and early stage businesses, and as a system shaper creating the conditions for innovation.

Harnessing the rigour of science and the creativity of design, we work relentlessly to change millions of lives for the better. Find out more at nesta.org.uk.

How will a Communications Coordinator (Content and Digital Platforms) contribute to Nesta’s success?

You will support the smooth running of the Communications team.

Working flexibly across the audiences, content, digital platforms, editorial and events functions that sit within the team, you will take on a range of responsibilities to help us function at our best. Tasks will range from digital content creation (eg, recording and editing for audio and visual); logging media coverage and answering to enquiries from journalists, managing website content, planning and managing the delivery of digital and live events, and a range of marketing tasks that could include anything from planning and delivering a social media campaign to creating a list of target stakeholders to invite to a roundtable event.

Key to success is a desire to learn new skills, brilliant time management and organisational abilities, and the ability to keep multiple plates spinning at the same time.

The role

There are three Communications Coordinators in the team, who will work flexibly across all functions of audiences, content, digital platforms, editorial and events.

Content

  • Helping to produce shareable content for our range of digital channels (including event videos, vox pops, interviews, podcasts) - covering recording, editing, audio content and sound design

  • Supporting the internal communications team with mixed media outputs for the intranet and the internal newsletter

  • Supporting the management of print and digital asset production, liaising with external creative suppliers and printers where relevant

Audiences

  • Creating media lists, and carrying out tasks varying from media sell ins, to researching stories, to coverage logging

  • Proofreading articles and drafting pitches to journalists

  • Stakeholder relations activity, for example by compiling lists of target stakeholders for a particular product, or by ensuring that a new relationship is recorded in our CRM

  • Supporting the delivery of marketing campaigns aimed at a variety of audiences, from forming partnership marketing opportunities to social media marketing campaigns.

Events

  • Support the delivery of high quality and effective live and digital events for Nesta, including leading the delivery of small scale events and providing administrative and practical support for colleagues who are delivering larger more complex events.

  • Be accountable for a range of customer services tasks relating to events.

Editorial/Digital platforms

  • Helping to ensure content for Nesta's website is up to date, and writing, editing and proofreading new website content

  • Supporting digital development projects including improvements to website features and functionality

  • Building and creating new pages on the Nesta website

  • Supporting new starters to Nesta by requesting and uploading their details to our website and intranet

  • Supporting the Nesta’s internal communications function, updating our intranet content

The person

  • Proven writing and editorial ability, with impeccable writing and proofreading skills

  • Proven ability to create digital content (eg, using Photoshop, Illustrator, etc)

  • Proven ability to maintain website content via a content management system.

  • Proven ability to manage both live and digital events

  • Good organisational skills, able to plan, manage and prioritise their workload.

As with all members of Nesta’s communications team, the postholder will also have:

  • Proven interest in at least one of Nesta’s Mission areas, and in social innovation more broadly

  • High standards of written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to write and edit content for a range of audiences

  • Impeccable grammar and proofreading skills

  • Proven ability to create simple digital content assets and knowledge and to upload content to a website via a CMS

As with all members of Nesta’s communications team, the postholder will also:

  • Be an adept and nimble multitasker who relishes being busy, keeping multiple plates spinning, is highly organised and can manage conflicting demands.

  • Have strong networking and relationship building skills

  • Have a positive and can do attitude, able to adapt to changing circumstances with flexibility and good humour, and to work well under pressure.
