Job Description
We are seeking an Accountant to join Behavioural Insight Team’s Australian office. This is a broad sole-function role responsible for the full suite of accounting, payroll, compliance and reporting obligations for our Australian operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Finance APAC and support the APAC Director of Operations across all financial management activities.
This role is a Full-Time Permanent position based in Sydney with a hybrid working pattern.
What does an Accountant do at BIT?
Financial Reporting & Planning
Prepare monthly management accounts (balance sheet, P&L, variance analysis)
Support annual budget preparation and quarterly re-forecasting
Contribute to budgetary and accounting policy development
Tax & Statutory Compliance
Prepare and lodge quarterly BAS and monthly IAS
Payroll tax returns and reconciliations across NSW, VIC, QLD and ACT
Fringe Benefits Tax calculations in accordance with Australian tax rules
Liaise with global and external accountants for company tax, deferred tax calculations and other ad-hoc tax-related complex issues.
Audit, Risk & Systems
Coordinate with UK head office and external auditors; prepare audit schedules
Conduct financial investigations in instances of suspected fraud
Process improvement and maintenance of accounting systems (Deltek Vantagepoint, Xero)
Maintain integrity and accuracy of financial data
Banking & Transactional Accounting
Key point of contact with banks on all corporate banking matters
Monthly bank reconciliations and day-to-day transactional entries
Monthly cash flow projections; advise Head of Finance on liquidity management
Accounts Payable/Receivable processing and monthly expense reconciliations
Payroll & Employee Obligations
Process monthly Australian payroll in Xero; Single-Touch-Payroll (STP) reporting and superannuation lodgement
Leave reconciliations between Vantagepoint and Xero
Workers’ compensation renewal and risk management
What makes a great Accountant at BIT?
Essential
Degree qualification in Finance / Accounting and professional CA/CPA qualification
Minimum 3 years’ working experience with Australian accounting standards and tax context, with at least 1 year post-qualification
Demonstrated experience using Xero and Deltek VantagePoint.
Demonstrated experience with Australian payroll, BAS/IAS preparation, and multi-jurisdictional payroll tax.
Intermediate proficiency across Google Suite, particularly Mail, Sheets, Slides and Docs

Ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines
