Job Description

Bethnal Green Ventures is a leading early-stage ‘tech for good’ investor and accelerator. Our mission is to build a global community of great tech startups & founders which provide huge positive social impact and financial returns. Since 2012 we’ve backed over 110 startups with a social purpose through our accelerator programme, including Fairphone, DrDoctor, Overleaf, Piclo, Our Path, Bright Little Labs and many more.

We’re very proud of the companies we have invested in and are currently raising two new investment funds to continue on our goal of supporting the best tech for good ventures. We’re looking for a diligent and motivated person to join the BGV team to work closely with BGV’s Head of Portfolio sourcing deals, conducting due diligence and executing investments at accelerator, pre-seed and seed stages.

While the core BGV team is small (we’re a dynamic bunch of eight people), our wider community includes over 60 live startups in our portfolio and over 100 mentors in our network. We work alongside our ventures in our co-working space near Aldgate and help run the London Tech for Good meetup with over 7,500 members. BGV gives you the benefits of being in a small team whilst being part of a bigger community movement.

This is an ideal role for somebody with investment experience who wants to transition to the impact investment sector.

As Investment Associate your responsibilities will be varied but will include:

  • Sourcing and screening accelerator stage deals

  • Working closely with the Head of Portfolio to source, evaluate and execute pre-seed and seed investments

  • Brand ambassador for BGV: attending startup and investor events to source accelerator stage deals and grow BGV’s community of co-investors

The role will also include:

  • Prepare materials and analysis for Investment Committee meetings, and participating in those meetings

  • Working closely with BGV’s Head of Portfolio to evaluate exit opportunities

  • Working closely with our lawyers to prepare and negotiate terms of our investments

  • Supporting the startups on BGV’s accelerator and within BGV’s portfolio

The ideal person will:

  • Have an affinity with BGV’s mission and values and be excited about the opportunity to work with socially motivated tech startups

  • Demonstrates a desire and propensity to develop in an investment focussed role

  • Be able to effectively combine a data-driven approach with risk taking and commercial instinct

  • Be team oriented, with a ‘can do’ approach to helping out the wider BGV team where necessary

Benefits:

  • An amazing experience working alongside startups solving big social and environmental problems

  • Exposure to our growing network of alumni, mentors and investors

  • A great work environment and supportive team culture

  • Flexible working

We are committed to building a diverse community and strongly encourage applications from women, minorities and individuals with disabilities.

We will be holding first round interviews between 28th January and 1st February.
