Job Description
Summary
Vale Domestic Abuse Service provides specialist support to women and children who have been subjected to violence against women, domestic abuse and/or sexual violence (VAWDASV). You can find out more about us here.
The purpose of this role is to deliver support that is informed by an understanding of trauma, led by the individual needs of survivors, grounded in their strengths, and mindful of risks. This support will help survivors enhance their understanding of their roles as mothers and aid them in developing behaviours and strategies that ensure the safety of mothers, children, and young people. This support aims to enable survivors to:
Feel safe
Have improved understanding of themselves
Have improved understanding of the impact of Domestic Abuse and sexual violence on their children
Be informed and have knowledge to be able to make informed choices
Understand safe, equal and reciprocal relationships
Be well connected and have a healthy support network

What this job does
Provides support to clients
Individual and Group Support: Offer both one to one and group support sessions to survivors of domestic abuse, focusing on emotional support, recovery and education on protective behaviours and equal, safe relationships
Emotional Support and Advocacy: Provide emotional support and advocacy to non abusive parents facing challenges in their relationships with their children, aiming to strengthen the parent child bond.
Needs and Relationship Building: Work closely with non-abusive parents to identify the needs of their children and support them in fostering and maintaining equal, safe and reciprocal relationships.
Improve Understanding Support and assist clients in understanding the dynamics of domestic abuse ensuring they are aware of their rights and responsibilities that enable them to make informed decisions about their life.
Collaborate with Stakeholders: Support, signpost and refer clients to the services that are mutually agreed as part of their support plan.
Ensure all clients are safeguarded following Vale DAS’s safeguarding policies
Excellent case management
Maintain timely, accurate and confidential client management records
Evaluate distance travelled and ensures the views and experiences of clients are actively sought to inform service development
Carry out regular case reviews in liaison with the line manager to review ongoing risk and needs, using the outcomes to inform action planning
Ensure confidentiality and security of information is maintained in accordance with Vale DAS Confidentiality, Data Protection policies
Be a team player
Be an ambassador for Vale Domestic Abuse Services to ensure an effective, coordinated community response to survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence and their children

Participate in team meetings, supervision, training either internal or external as requested by the line manager.
Work within the Policies and Procedures of Vale DAS
Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be required.
The Ideal Candidate will:
Has sound knowledge and understanding of the complex impacts of domestic abuse and sexual violence on survivors and their children, recognising the emotional, social and economic challenges they face.
Be rooted in a feminist perspective, with a through understanding of Violence against women and girls, domestic abuse and sexual violence
Have knowledge of trauma informed, needs led, strengths based, and risk assessed support
Equipped with a minimum of 1 year experience of providing emotional and practical support to adults, including effectively managing and recording casework
Be well versed in housing, criminal, civil and welfare rights legislation relating to domestic abuse and sexual violence
Be capable of managing their own caseload, working under pressure and prioritising workload
Be proficient in crisis management, with the ability to navigate challenging situations with resilience and a constructive approach
Be committed to accurate and timely record keeping, understanding its importance in our work.
