Job Description
Project Description:
The project will see the birth of the graphical user interface (GUI) for the main in-house simulation code, REWIND, at Magdrive. This will be the Graphical User Interface for REWIND Operation (GUIRO).
A key part for this will involve the choice of the tool to create the interface; this will need to be chosen from the free & open source pool of tools available. The tool chosen will need to be able to work well with the tools chosen for creating REWIND, most notably C++. In addition, the use of object orientation in REWIND necessitates the same paradigm in the creation of GUIRO. The creator of GUIRO will need to search and find a number of tools (2-3) which would be suitable so that a selection can be made with the Magdrive team.
The choice of tool and the way for creating GUIRO will need to have a strong emphasis on computational efficiency. This is so that visualisation functionality can be added, whether as a stretch goal in this project, or later.
Having chosen the suitable tool, then GUIRO can be designed, under the guidance of the Magdrive team, and a first version created. How much functionality is implemented will depend on the speed and proficiency of the creator of GUIRO. This will/can include interaction with a REWIND interface provided by the Magdrive team.
Applicant Specification:
The candidate will be mature, motivated and academically curious. The candidate will be proficient in programming, with good knowledge of C++ and object orientation. The candidate will have an interest in computer graphics and in the creation of interfaces that humans find intuitive.
Minimum requirements:
Passion and enthusiasm
Proficiency in C++
Proficiency with OOP
Interest in computer graphics and GUI
Process details:
8 weeks minimum fixed term contract to be agreed with successful candidate
In-person Induction Event to be held at the beginning of the internship.
