Role Purpose

Are you a teacher of KS3 and KS4 Science, a curriculum specialist and subject expert, with strong experience of working within mainstream secondary schools in England? 

We are looking for a passionate Science specialist with extensive experience of delivering the KS3 and KS4 Science curriculum to students in English secondary schools. Ideally you will have worked as a classroom teacher for some time and are now a Head of Science or departmental lead. You will understand how to construct a Science curriculum that aligns to the national curriculum and allows students of all abilities to thrive and succeed. You have experience of preparing students for GCSE and A-level examinations and have an excellent knowledge of AQA (and potentially Edexcel and OCR) exam board specifications.

As Secondary Science Product Owner, you  will be responsible for overseeing the product roadmap for the KS3 and KS4 product, initially working to bring our digital (and later print) textbooks to market via Propello’s online platform. Going forward, you will be helping to develop exciting additional digital features e.g. assessment tools and adaptive learning pathways that will further enhance the experience of both teachers and students. This will involve you utilising a range of skills from content reviewing  and editing to market analysis and customer research.

This role reports to the VP of Content and Curriculum and will be offered on a part time contract basis (20 hours per week) for an initial 6 month period with the option to extend.

Role Responsibilities 

  • Manage the product roadmap for the development of the KS3 and KS4 Science product

  • Development of best-in-class pedagogical content based on market/competitor assessment, research of best practices as well as user-centred innovation practices

  • Review and assess the existing content materials to ensure they accurately meet the requirements of the national curriculum and AQA specifications, making amendments where necessary

  • Develop additional UK specific content in the subject matter

  • Successfully apply contemporary pedagogical theory and practices to content development

  • Develop assessment tools and additional features that are time-saving and user-friendly for both students and teachers

  • Make informed strategic decisions about the content, structure, user experience and delivery of the overall Science subject offering.

Knowledge & Skills Required

  • A passionate classroom practitioner who has extensive experience of delivering the KS3 and 4 Science curriculum within mainstream secondary schools in England

  • Excellent knowledge of the English national curriculum and relevant exam board syllabuses (AQA essential)

  • 5+ years of teaching experience 

  • 3+ years of subject leadership experience, such as Head of Science

  • Innovative ideas about how to improve the learning experience and outcomes for students via digital platforms

  • Innovative ideas about where the future of curriculum delivery is heading in the next 5-10 years and how these can be delivered in a cost-conscious way to schools

  • An understanding of applying EDI principles to the development of content

  • Experience in one or more of the following; curriculum development and mapping, standards alignment, publishing of KS3 and KS4 materials 

  • Highly organised, self motivated and able to work to tight deadlines

  • Experimental mindset: try, fail, learn, adapt

  • We are looking for fast-paced and creative people with great communication and people skills

Preferable Experience

  • Part time teacher who can keep abreast of the latest developments in school and apply this knowledge to iteratively improve content development

  • Knowledge of existing schemes, platforms and resources for KS3 and KS4 Science and their strengths and weaknesses

  • Developing content for educational publishers for digital platforms

  • Prior experience with content management systems such as Learnosity or Contentful

  • Demonstrable experience in applying EDI and culturally responsive pedagogy in the education environment 

  • An understanding of sustainability within both the Science curriculum and the school environment
