Job Description

The Role

We’re looking to welcome a new team member to the Youth Forum to lead a new initiative focused on social activism and movement building and we hope that person can be you!

We’re looking for someone who is driven by social causes, is passionate about empowering activists and campaigners and who has a strong background in community management, growing a movement, political campaigning or project management in the communications sector.

The Youth Forum is embarking on an exciting new initiative that builds communities of social activists around Europe– providing every young person with access to the skills, motivation and networks they need to grow and develop as an activist.

Reporting directly to the Associate Director, you will be responsible for growing this brand new project. But you won’t be alone! In this role, you’ll be coordinating the work of a team of up to four individuals.

The project will include; working with our membership to build local/ national activism networks around Europe; produce engaging training and capacity building content; implement a digital content strategy; and organise conferences and festivals for up to 12,000 young people.

We’re looking for someone who can bring their creativity, their experience and their strong motivation to make an impact. In creating this new team we’re looking for someone who understands what it takes to get a project off the ground and who can take ownership of the vision for this exciting new initiative.

Your Skills

First and foremost, we’re looking for someone who can bring this exciting new initiative to life! The ideal candidate will shape this new initiative depending on their own experience. To give you an idea of what that may look like, we’ll be looking for candidates who have experience in some of the below areas:

  • Understanding activism, what it takes to be an activist and how the activism community works.

  • Experience getting people onboard with a project. We’re really keen to speak to people who have experience with social marketing theory!

  • Experience or understanding of digital youth work and its principles.

  • A history of developing or coordinating the production and creation of training materials in different multimedia formats.

  • Experience managing networks, supporting volunteers in various locations.

  • Knowledge of running data-driven campaigns, harnessing user experience research methodology or implementing split-run testing, content optimisation and contact segmentation/ targeting

  • Experience in managing communications projects. Developing communications strategies, rolling out new web campaigns, producing multimedia content etc.

We’re never going to find a candidate who ticks all the boxes. What’s more important for us is to find the right person who has the ability to;

  • Understand their own strengths

  • Identify strength and skills in others

  • Create a holistic environment where everyone has the opportunity to use their strengths and skills

  • Spot opportunities and be reactive and responsive to evolve the project

The Offer

For this position we are offering a fixed term (Contrat de travail à durée déterminée), full-time (35 hours per week) contract for a duration of 24 months which takes us up to the European Elections 2024 with the possibility to extend to an open ended contract (Contrat de travail à durée indéterminée) after this date.

The gross monthly salary for this position, in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement currently applied at the European Youth Forum, is €3,200.

We also provide other benefits to employees such as hospitalisation insurance, sport and eco-cheques, an annual STIB subscription and extra holidays. Employees are currently offered 30 days of leave per annum (pro rata).

Due to the nature of the audience we work with, meetings and events can sometimes take place outside of office hours. So for this position we require someone willing to travel and work flexible hours including, when required, occasional weekends. Work outside of office hours is compensated by the Forum.

This position is based in Brussels and candidates should be willing to relocate or live in the surrounding area. The Youth Forum offers a relocation package to those based outside of Belgium willing to relocate.

The Organisation

The European Youth Forum is the largest youth platform in Europe. We represent over 100 youth organisations, which bring together tens of millions of young people from all over Europe.

The Youth Forum works to empower young people to participate actively in society to improve their own lives by representing and advocating their needs and interests and those of their organisations. In the current uncertain political and social context that affects young people, they can be powerful catalysts for positive change and contributors of innovative solutions to Europe’s challenges.
