Job Description

Could you lead a team powering up climate justice – including clean, affordable energy for all – in the Global South?

Ashden supports climate solutions that both deliver a fairer future and lowers emissions. We are seeking a Director of International Programmes to take forward our work outside the UK, which works with and supports local partners to help them create benefits for marginalised people and communities at greatest risk from the climate crisis.

In recent years we’ve put refugee energy innovators on the global stage, funded wider access to sustainable cooling in farms and cities, and demonstrated how action on skills and training can deliver a just transition. We are seeking a director to help us develop, refine and scale up our work over the next year, in particular to lead a process of reviewing how best we can maximise our impact.

You will need to realise Ashden’s mission and strategic goals in the areas of energy access, climate action and a just transition, within a framework of decolonisation, decarbonisation and diversity, equity & inclusion.

You will oversee expenditure for all our international programmes, and help secure new funding. You will also represent Ashden publicly and contribute to thought leadership on key issues.

You will build new collaborations and networks and lead a review of our international work. As a member of the Ashden executive management team, you will contribute to the organisation's overall governance, budget setting and monitoring, and strategy.

With experience including a background working in climate action in the Global South, driving policy change and campaigning to achieve strategic goals, you will also need a good understanding of finance, and a strong fundraising track record.

This is a one-year fixed-term contract, working three days per week. You will need the right to live and work in the UK and will be based at our office in London Victoria (working from home as appropriate/agreed).

Interviews will take place on Friday 8 September online and Friday 15 September in person.

Oversee expenditure for all our International Programmes and work in close collaboration with the fundraising team to secure increased levels of funding.

Be a spokesperson for Ashden and contribute to our thought leadership on international climate action writing and speaking as appropriate.
