Strategy and Project Manager
Nuffield Foundation
- Closing: 9:30am, 13th Jul 2023 BST
Job Description
We are recruiting for a Strategy and Project Manager to work with the Director of Strategy and Engagement, the Nuffield Foundation's Leadership Team, staff and external stakeholders to plan, project manage and draft the next revised Nuffield Foundation strategy.
The Nuffield Foundation is an open, collaborative, and engaged funder, offering more than money. Its aim is to understand the social, demographic, technological and economic trends that shape people’s lives. To this end, as well as funding research with a particular focus on education, justice and welfare, the Foundation supports three independent research centres focusing on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on society; bioethics; and improving the Family Justice system. By connecting the projects it funds, the Foundation gives voice to an overarching narrative and strengthens the impact of its research.
This is an exciting time to join the Foundation as it thinks about its future direction. The last strategy period ran from 2017, and this role will support the production of the next phase strategy, helping the teams to work through what the big societal issues will be and how the Nuffield Foundation should respond to them through its funding priorities and impact activities.
About the role
In this fixed-term role you will support the Director of Strategy and Engagement to define a programme of workstreams covering all elements of the strategy, including areas such as stakeholder engagement, horizon scanning, objective setting, and developing measures to evaluate impact. You will provide research and strategy support in areas such as setting up futures workshops and developing theories of change and impact measures, working with other Foundation staff and external experts where appropriate.
You will be responsible for project managing the development of the new strategy, bringing together a project group of staff to progress each workstream. You will be responsible for developing a project plan with milestones and for monitoring progress to ensure that each is on track as well as reporting through the Foundation’s governance structures at the right moment.
You will also help to write sections of the strategy (working with colleagues across the Foundation to iterate drafts), then work with our communications and public affairs teams on events supporting the strategy development, including external stakeholder consultation, and on the launch of the published strategy.

About you
You will be an experienced project manager, comfortable convening (and consulting with) multiple stakeholders across an organisation. You will also have experience of strategy processes, including how to build and implement theories of change and/or impact measures. This will be coupled with strong teamworking, communication and data-management skills, to work hands on with teams across the organisation to develop the Foundation’s next strategy.
