About Us

Driven by a passion to solve the climate crisis, The Sunrise Project Inc is a team of experienced change-makers, researchers and communications professionals with a mission to scale social movements to drive the global transition beyond fossil fuels. With affiliated programs and staff in Australia and Europe, we have developed a unique model of grant making and campaigning that supports networks of organizations to drive powerful change towards our mission.

We have a dynamic and nimble organisational culture. We’re serious about supporting our people to thrive as we tackle the urgent climate challenge.

We believe that a diversity of experiences and perspectives will help us build stronger strategies, teams and movements. We strongly encourage First Nations people, people of color, people living outside of cities, and people with disabilities to apply. We are continually working on becoming a better workplace for everyone.

About the Program

Sunrise Organizing Lab (SOL) is a program of The Sunrise Project that aims to support a movement that is healthier, more inclusive and equitable, and ultimately more powerful in challenging the finance sector to leverage its power and hasten the transition away from fossil fuels. Finance Action Organisers Network (“Finance Action”) is the capacity building arm of SOL, supporting networks of groups and activists to build power, strategy, and skills to win campaigns, shift targets, and grow the global finance movement.

SOL supports Sunrise campaigns targeting private banks, insurers, asset managers, private equity firms, and others through directed network corporate campaigns. We know that deep investment in strategy development, capacity building, and providing ongoing support to partners and peers is key to winning corporate and regulatory campaigns and enforcing those wins.

About the Role

The Training & Capacity Building Manager is a new role to support growth and delivery of cross regional capacity building programs. The role works with the Director of Finance Action Organisers Network and the SOL Program Director, in collaboration with SOL and TSP team members, to identify and build programs and partnerships to support cross regional strategies that build movement infrastructure. This may include: training and coaching programs with key constituencies like youth or faith based groups, with groups already fighting against fossil fuels or those working to expand clean energy in key regions; and/or, strengthening organising and campaigning efforts to shift finance out of fossil fuels and increase investing in renewable energy.

The role implements and iterates on these programs, including: developing trainings on and across financial institutions; experimenting with capacity building programs for various constituencies to add finance targets to local site struggles and fights; recruiting potential partners globally to participate in programs; and overall building the capacity of our networks and people to win our campaigns and grow our movement into the future.

The Sunrise Project supports networks of organizations to work together to achieve outcomes that would not be possible by individual organizations acting alone. We expect all roles at Sunrise to actively support these networks and partner organizations.

About You

You understand the power social movements have to shape corporate policy, pass legislation, change narratives, and win campaigns, and the history of campaigns that have shifted the social landscape to this day. You are eager to use your skills in campaigning to support actors across the movement ecology to develop their skills, sharpen their strategies, take strategic action, and build real power together. You have experience in training and engaging with groups large and small to connect local issues to corporate and political targets and build transformational power. You understand that training and capacity building is not a one-time experience, and enjoy providing support and collaborating with people to continue growing and winning.

You demonstrate a strong ability to work with different groups across regions, and are committed to advancing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion within the organization and through its work in the world. You understand the power of growing movement capacity to support growth of individuals, institutions, and entities. You’re passionate about winning campaigns right now to shift finance out of fossil fuels and building longer term capacity to support campaigns into the future.

You do not need senior experience in fossil finance or climate – you can be an advanced leader in your own field of training or campaigning with a desire to be more active in the fossil finance movement.
