Job Description
The Interim Chief Markets Officer (CMO) is a critical executive leadership role, responsible for the strategic direction, operational delivery, and people leadership of the PRI’s global Markets function during a period of transition.
The Markets team is one of the PRI’s most externally facing and strategically important functions. It operates across regions, cultures, time zones, and market contexts, working closely with signatories, policymakers, industry bodies, and internal stakeholders. The Interim CMO will provide strong, inclusive leadership to a high-performing, globally distributed leadership team, ensuring coherence, clarity, and momentum across diverse regional priorities while maintaining alignment with PRI’s global strategy.
This role requires an experienced leader who is comfortable operating in complexity, balancing autonomy with accountability, and leading senior, expert teams with empathy, diplomacy, and decisiveness.

Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Set clear strategic direction for the Markets function, aligning regional priorities with PRI’s organisational strategy and mission
Provide continuity, stability, and strategic judgement during a period of executive transition
Contribute to organisation-wide strategic discussions as a member of the Executive Leadership Team
Management of a Global, Diverse Team
Lead, support, and develop a senior, globally distributed Markets leadership team, fostering trust, collaboration, and high performance across cultures and geographies
Create an environment where strong perspectives are welcomed, constructive challenge is encouraged, and decisions are made clearly and respectfully
Role-model inclusive leadership, emotional intelligence, and accountability, particularly in complex or high-stakes situations
Support Regional Directors in navigating local market dynamics while maintaining consistency in standards, performance, and organisational values
Operational Oversight and Delivery
Hold overall accountability for Markets business planning, budgeting, and resource allocation
Ensure delivery against agreed objectives including signatory retention, growth, progression, regional policy goals, and broader ecosystem engagement
Act as a point of escalation for performance, quality, or risk issues within the Markets function
External Engagement and Representation
Represent the PRI externally with credibility and authority, including at senior-level meetings, conferences, and public events
Engage with signatories, policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders on responsible investment trends and regional market developments
Work closely with Communications and Marketing colleagues to support effective regional positioning and messaging
Governance and Reporting
Provide regular, high-quality reporting to the Interim CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board
Ensure appropriate governance, risk management, and oversight across Markets activities
Person Specification
Essential Experience and Capabilities
Proven executive-level leadership experience in complex, international organisations
Demonstrated ability to lead senior and highly expert teams across multiple geographies and cultures
Excellent people leadership skills, including coaching, performance management, and creating clarity in ambiguous environments
Strong strategic and systems-level thinking, with the ability to translate strategy into effective operational delivery
Highly developed influencing, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills, with confidence operating at Board and C-suite level
Diplomacy, judgement, and emotional intelligence, with the ability to build consensus while making clear decisions
Full professional proficiency in English is required; additional language skills are highly desirable.
As this is an executive role in a global organisation, international travel will be required, consistent with business needs.
Subject Matter Expertise
Deep and credible experience in responsible investment, sustainable finance, financial policy, or closely related fields
Strong understanding of investment practices, the investment chain, and the policy and regulatory environment shaping global capital markets
