Purpose of Role

Reporting to the Senior Engineer, the purpose of the Assistant Site Engineer is to undertake the engineering on an assigned part of the project. As an Assistant Site Engineer you will ensure all permanent and temporary works are delivered in line with project demands, specification tolerances and client's requirements in a timely, controlled, and proactive manner.

Working with the Engineering team you will ensure engineering information needs and checks are fully satisfied and that the project achieves completion defect-free first time. The role is equally accountable for the focus on and maintaining of relationships with the client’s team and in supporting continual learning and improvement on the project.

Day to Day

Construction Engineering Knowledge

  • Has a developing construction knowledge within the bounds of their experience and uses within delivering their role.

  • Keeps a site diary, sharing this information with site team and contributing to knowledge capture, share initiative.

  • Ability to access and interpret engineering information and effectively communicate to the site team, by way of mark-ups, sketches, calculations or within their setting out of the works.

  • Engineering Information, Design Coordination, and process:

  • Knowledge and Interest to interrogate design information, determining if the information is suitable to be included in the works, and to help write RFIs and TQs to resolve discrepancies within inadequate engineering information.

  • Contributes and helps ensure that engineering information being used on-site is current and of construction status, updating files as required.

  • Supports and helps Provide dimensional control for an area of the works, ensuring that surveying instrumentation used is within calibration.

  • Helps Produce as-built surveying compliance checks for an area of the works, ensuring the results are presented in a format suitable to be included in the project records. 

  • Helps Establish and maintain control from primary or secondary control, carrying out checks to the control provided by others and communicating control information to the team.

  •  Assists in delivery of Quality Plan and Assurance targets relevant to the project.

  • Carries out site quality inspections, resolving minor Quality issues as raised by the Clients team or self and records on appropriate Quality Plan documentation and files for retrieval.

  • Knowledge and initial ability to interpret specification requirements, produce and work to ITPs.

  • Helps produce, maintain and close out Permits to Work to the project requirements.

  • Helps provide quantity information and carries out material call offs and requisitions, measurement of material usage/reconciliation.

  • Assists with logistics planning and scheduling.

  • Are passionate about engineering and the site environment.

  • Are competent in applying mathematics.

  • Have Civil Engineering theoretical knowledge.

  • Hold an qualification in civil engineering

Other Information:

  • This role is site-based, with working hours from 7.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday

  • Holiday entitlement is 26 days holiday per annum + Bank Holidays
