Job Description

We are seeking a Risk Manager in London to oversee the global enterprise risk management framework for the Firm. The Risk Manager reports to the Chief Risk Officer and has direct interaction with business heads of all investment, client and infrastructure teams including Control, Corporate Service, Finance, Legal and Compliance, Human Resources, Technology, and Trading.

The Role

The Risk Manager’s key aim is to maintain and develop Generation’s Risk framework, ensuring that it is appropriate for the business activities undertaken by the firm and maintains a controlled environment and independent monitoring at all times.  In executing their role, the Risk Manager will work closely with Generation’s Senior Management Team, plus a broad cross section of internal team members and external service providers. In addition, the Risk Manager will work closely with the Legal and Compliance team, providing risk oversight and assessment for core regulatory and internal compliance processes and projects. The role is a full-time, permanent position.

Accountabilities

 

  • Working with senior management to develop the current Risk Management function, leverage technologies and enhance the existing risk management framework at Generation.

  • Management of the Risk Oversight Group (ROG) calendar of deliverables (including annual assessment of performance of the ROG).

  • Oversight of risk events, root cause analysis, pattern identification, validation of corrective actions and procedural change.

Responsibilities

  • Through continuous market and business surveillance for new risk items that might impact Generation, maintain the firm’s Risk Matrix, ongoing review and oversight. This includes regular interaction with all business heads to review risk profiles of their team and their risk exposure, along with checking that controls are current, effective and that the business heads understand their accountability for the individual risks.

  • Upon identification of such risks, design and implement the appropriate monitoring and reporting system.

  • Maintain and oversee the firm’s incident management process, provide root cause analysis support to the respective business unit, and generate reporting for the ROG.

  • Coordinate of ROG papers to ensure timely delivery.

  • Collaborate on and oversee risk assessments on process changes, including technology enhancements and regulatory change. This will include guidance on project management governance, identification of appropriate controls and procedures and appropriate monitoring.

  • Member of the weekly Technology Change Advisory Board (CAB)  and Design Advisory Board (DAB) meetings, ensuring proposed technology releases do not adversely impact the firm’s risk profile.

  • Member of the Information Security Steering Committee (ISSC), as a member responsible for ensuring the charter is adhered to and providing relevant service to the ROG.

  • Oversee the vendor management process, by developing and maintaining a controlled workflow for all business teams to follow.  This includes guidance to business teams in the execution of the vendor due diligence process, ensuring consistency across the firm.

  • Coordinate the firm’s business continuity planning, including testing and reporting.

  • Lead the preparation and development of the firm’s ICARA reporting process, collaborating with the Finance and Compliance teams.

  • Coordinate of the firm’s annual assurance report on its internal controls (ICAEW ISAE 3402), partnering with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide informal counsel/advice to colleagues relating to events and potential incidents.

Provide support and training to staff as part of the ongoing management of risk awareness within the firm.

Ideal Background/ Qualifications & Experience

The role requires a dynamic, independent person who utilises their initiative, is consistent with challenging their peers in a demanding risk environment.

  • Extensive previous experience working in Asset Management, ideally in a Risk Management role, Operational oversight or similar roles;

  • Good knowledge of the compliance and regulatory requirements within the Investment Management Industry covering both the UK and US;

  • Broad understanding of operational process and investment risk within an Asset Management firm;

  • Strong project management abilities coupled with developed problem solving and analytical skills;

  • A good communicator who ideally has experience of managing others and the ability to influence people;

  • The person must be a self-motivated and comfortable working independently on specific tasks, as well as working in collaboration with colleagues across both regional offices;

  • The person must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, be willing to own and solve issues/queries as they arise;

  • They will need to be a confident member of the team who is capable of gaining the confidence of senior management and be able to challenge the status quo. They will also need be able to use their own initiative, but also have the ability to identify when to escalate issues for referral.
