Did you know that there are at least 20m people in the UK in vulnerable financial circumstances, who are poorly served or unfairly excluded from mainstream financial services?
That’s nearly a third of all adults in the UK.
We are Fair4All Finance. We are a not-for-profit organisation working with Financial Services providers to improve the financial wellbeing of people in vulnerable circumstances by increasing access to fair, affordable and appropriate financial products and services.
We are continuing our work following our latest round of funding, and as a result we are now seeking a Legal Counsel on a part-time basis, 3 days per week.
As our Legal Counsel you will support our work on novel financial transactions, such as partial bad debt guarantees and profit-sharing mechanisms. There will also be opportunity to support groundbreaking investments, including special purpose vehicles (SPVs) and pioneering commercial deals that redefine impact-led finance and help ensure regulatory compliance in the credit space, including data protection, subsidy compliance, and procurement law.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Support: Drafting and negotiating contracts for investments, supporting deal structuring, and working closely with external counsel.
Regulatory Compliance: Advising on credit-related regulations and ensuring compliance across our operations.
Data Governance: Supporting our unique customer data collection projects with legal guidance on data protection and IT resilience.
Grant and Funding Agreements: Advising on contracts with funders, including the UK government and private institutions.
Essential experience:
Experience with financial transactions, particularly SPVs or other structured lending arrangements.
A strong understanding of regulatory frameworks (e.g., credit or public sector law).
An ability to balance legal rigor with commercial pragmatism to help us achieve impact-led outcomes.
A collaborative mindset and the ability to work well with internal teams and external partners.
Desirable experience:
Experience working in a small business, not-for-profit, charity, NGO, public sector, or finance organisation.
Personal Characteristics
Collaborative and a strong team player, thriving in a dynamic environment.
Clear and confident communicator, able to demystify legal complexities for non-legal colleagues.
Passionate about making a difference and working for a purpose-led organisation.
Pragmatic, resourceful, and solutions-oriented, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
