The role

A Consultant at BOP is responsible for conducting research and analysis and communicating it clearly in reports and slide decks. Every consultant works within multiple project teams and so has to coordinate and plan their own workload, working with their Manager. For this role, we are looking for a candidate who has demonstrable professional experience contributing to projects related to placemaking and cultural master planning - our work on both major regeneration schemes and development of new cultural projects, attractions, and cultural destinations.

Illustrative day in the life​ of a Senior Consultant at BOP

  • 30min morning team meeting

  • Review the existing business plan for a cultural venue, create short list of recommendations for revenue generation and discuss it with the client

  • Drafting a set of slides based on a survey of creative businesses, to show the key factors driving their business growth

  • Talking a client through some early findings to help develop and refine our analysis

  • 1 hr interviewing a consultee as part of a live project

As a Consultant you will be expected to: 

  • Undertake a range of research and consultancy tasks across our portfolio of work.

  • Report and presentation writing, including helping to shape a clear and coherent narrative.

  • Providing punchy, insightful, and clear analysis, including the use of specialist software if relevant.

  • Setting up surveys and field work (e.g. building online surveys and arranging programmes of interviews).

  • Undertaking telephone and in-person interviews and focus groups and analysis.

  • Client management, including ensuring our clients are engaged in the consultancy process.  

  • Contribute to the tendering process (i.e. to bid writing and pitch preparations). 

  • The role will require some travel.

What we are looking for

Key requirements

  • 4+ years’ work experience at a senior level – either in a consultancy business or cultural institution, urban design, property development or a placemaking agency.

  • Strong report writing skills. You must be able to write crisp business English and use PowerPoint to develop engaging, visually attractive reports.

  • Experience in one or more of the following:

i)   contributing to feasibility and option studies

ii) contributing to market and demand appraisals for cultural/commercial organisations

iii)    business planning and business development

iv)    cultural regeneration and placemaking

v)     planning policy.

  • High level analytical skills. You should have exceptional critical reasoning skills and be able to use Excel for analysis and charting.

Desirable requirements

  • Languages: languages other than English are desirable, particularly Mandarin, Arabic, or Spanish

  • Experience of contributing to cultural regeneration or capital development in property development/retail.

Details​

  • You will report to a Senior Consultant.

  • Salary range of £40 – 50,000 pa plus bonus, depending on experience

  • This role is offered on a full-time (37.5hrs pw) or 0.8 FTE (30hrs pw).

  • 25 days holiday (including 5 days during the Christmas closure period)

  • We are open to flexible working arrangements. Working remotely is possible although we require fortnightly on-site presence (London) during your probationary period, and periodic attendance afterwards. The frequency of this will be agreed upon with your Line Manager.

  • Start date - as soon as possible​.
