Data Analyst (Schools)
Unifrog
- Closing: 2:52pm, 6th Mar 2024 GMT
Job Description
Unifrog’s mission
We’re on a mission to level the playing field when it comes to young people finding and applying for their next step after school. We're achieving this by bringing all the available information into one single, impartial, user-friendly platform that helps students to make the best choices, and submit the strongest applications. We also empower teachers and counsellors to manage the progression process effectively.
Our outlook is global - we work with schools and universities all over the world, from the US to New Zealand, and from Italy to Hong Kong. We want to make it so that young people can compare every opportunity taught in English, wherever it is in the world, and have all the support they need to make successful applications.
We have a clear social purpose, and we’re hugely ambitious. We already work with over half of UK secondary schools, and hundreds of international schools. We are growing rapidly in terms of the number of our customers, in terms of how much they use our platform, and in terms of the breadth of products we offer (check out this video to hear more about the Unifrog platform).
Our team is at the heart of our business and is integral to our success. We work hard to foster a culture of openness, happiness and innovation, and we commit to helping every individual learn and grow so that they can reach their full potential. We want to hire talented people, whatever their background. If you are excited by our mission and are ready to work hard, please don’t hesitate to apply. We look forward to hearing from you! We believe in the power of diversity.
If you are from an ethnic minority background, we would like to strongly encourage you to apply. In advance of applying if you have any questions about working at Unifrog, please contact our People and EDI Lead, Jo.
Data at Unifrog
The Data team’s goal is to inform every Unifrog decision with data. That includes decisions taken by our teammates, university and employer partners, and teachers and students who log into the Unifrog platform every day.
Our team goal is ambitious and we need a diverse team working on a wide range of projects to help us reach it. We’re proud of our impact with data, covering everything from managing external data integrations to conducting exploratory research on student behaviour and outcomes.
What you’ll do
As a Data Analyst, you’ll work closely with our UK and International Schools teams, helping to make sure all schools and students get the most out of Unifrog. We’re looking for a candidate who is comfortable grappling with complex data, enjoys solving ambiguous problems, and is excited to contribute to the growing use of data to improve schools' usage of the Unifrog platform.
Your responsibilities will include:
Monitor school KPIs and progress towards UK and International School objectives; the measures will typically be derived from platform behaviour (e.g. how many students shortlist opportunities on our apprenticeship searching tool).
Collaborate with our Work Experience Lead, analysing data from our Placements tool to maximise the impact of work experience in UK schools.
Improve the automated performance insights received by school Account Managers (e.g. support timely intervention on schools which are slow to launch Unifrog with any new KS5 students).
Lead on the creation of Unifrog student and teacher usage insights. Depending on the project, the insights will be used externally, within our school-facing conferences, webinars, and bulletins, or internally to inform company decisions.
Track progress towards our mission to “level the destinations playing field” and enable the targeted initiatives of disadvantaged schools with data insights.
Conduct exploratory analysis of platform data (e.g. find the common features of students’ final Unifrog sessions to help us tailor the timing of our end-of-school survey).
Provide aggregated usage reports for our School Group / Trust partners.
What we’re looking for
Able to solve complex problems using data wrangling and transformation.
Extremely comfortable at querying, aggregating and analysing data using SQL.
Experienced with other data aggregation/analysis tools: Advanced Excel, R or similar.
A solid understanding of statistical theory.
Able to draw insights from their analysis and craft a powerful, clear narrative.
Excellent written and verbal skills, including communicating findings from data analysis.
Proactive attitude and willingness to get stuck in. You need to be excited about going beyond the core responsibilities detailed above to improve what we do and make it a success.
Education sector experience is useful but not required.
You will join a team of highly motivated people passionate about our mission of helping students find the best next step for them after school. If our mission and the job responsibilities excite you, and you’re an energetic person willing to learn, we’d love to hear from you.
Working together
You’ll work closely with Unifrog’s Data Operations Manager, who will be your line manager. Your projects will also see you work with the rest of the Data team and people in our school-facing and marketing teams.

Within the company we try to foster a culture of innovation, and a happy working environment, both because this is the right thing to do, and because we think this results in the most effective team. To this end we believe in open communication, celebrating successes, supporting each other, not being afraid to be wrong or to fail, and promoting good ideas wherever they come from.
