Are you passionate about inspiring people to take meaningful action in creating a socially just and regenerative future? Are you a strategic communications thinker with an appetite for integrated marketing activity that raises awareness and understanding of sustainability challenges, helps generate income and ideally drives impactful engagement with civil society, industry and other stakeholders? Do you want to work as part of an international team – bringing an understanding of what it takes to build and shift narratives? If so, then this is a unique opportunity for you.
About Forum for the Future
Forum for the Future is one of the world’s leading international sustainability organisations. We work alongside businesses, philanthropies, government, civil society and others as part of change-making collaborations set on creating a just and regenerative future. We bring a 29-year track record in influencing change on the issues that matter most, inspiring change-actors to step up their ambition, stretch their vision and find pathways that are systemic, strategic and capable of tackling the root causes of our current crises.
We focus on influencing three pivotal transitions: to renewable energy, to a sustainable food system, and in the purpose of business. Our collaborations are largely either one-to-one or coalition-based, bringing together influential organisations to tackle shared challenges. We work out of four regions — the Americas, UK/Europe, India and Southeast Asia — and operate as a global team, delivering both international and local projects. As a dynamic, international leader with a deep commitment to creating a better future, you will play a pivotal role in using communications to drive real and lasting impact.
About the team
We are a multicultural team of 67 people, working out of the UK/Europe, Americas, India and Southeast Asia.
This post, Senior Communications and Marketing Manager, will work across our India geography while also supporting global projects. As part of the International Communications and Marketing team (based across all four regions), you will use integrated marketing approaches to support programme, income generation and brand goals at what is a key and exciting time for Forum’s work in India.
In particular, you will work closely with our programmatic teams, using communications in ways that influence what people think, feel and do about the issues we face and the timebound opportunities we have to tackle them.
About the role
Forum is at an exciting time in its evolution, offering opportunities for unprecedented impact as we approach our 30th anniversary. We updated our strategy in 2022, and it is now firmly in its implementation phase.
We know that to create change, we need to engage and inspire change-makers – and that starts with raising awareness of who we are, what we do, how and why. It means influencing what people think, feel and ultimately do about our social and environmental issues. And it means tightly monitoring impact to adapt communications strategies as we go.
The post-holder will lead the development and delivery of our India communications and marketing strategy, leveraging the full channel mix — from press and PR to digital and events — with audience-led content at the heart.
You will also lead communications efforts for our programmes, including but not limited to the Responsible Energy Initiative, Growing our Future and work on transition minerals.
The post is an exciting opportunity for anyone passionate about creating genuinely thought-leading content with the potential to engage hearts and minds at what is a pivotal moment for the sustainability movement.
About you
To succeed in this role you will have:
a desire to use communications to influence what people think, feel and do about social and environmental issues
an understanding of what it takes to build and shift narratives in the sustainability space
an understanding of what it takes to use communications to enable meaningful action within industry, civil society and other stakeholder groups
a passion for marketing and thought leadership with real potential to cut-through the noise
a passion for collaborative leadership, underpinned by a self-starter flair
ambition to be part of a team working for fundamental change, for a just and regenerative future
demonstrated ability to lead the shaping of an ambitious communications and marketing strategy — from objectives and audiences to value propositions and impact measurement/learning
a full understanding of using integrated marketing to build a brand, to create change and to raise income. This includes demonstrated experience in working across owned, earned and paid-for media, and knowing which channel(s) to leverage and audiences to engage for maximum impact. It also includes demonstrated understanding of local and global campaign development processes, from audience research to proposition development and communications planning
demonstrated understanding of the Indian media landscape, and contacts across various Indian media
a laser focus on priorities
And to further thrive in this role you will:
● be effective at highly distributed and networked ways of working
● enjoy working with people from different cultures and across geographies and your preferred ways of working are embodied by Forum’s values (being courageous, adaptive, empathetic, inquisitive, playful and respectful).
● be an effective communicator, writer, presenter and speaker — able to engage effectively with different audiences and clearly communicate complex sustainability information to non-expert audiences in a way that compels action.
