About the program

This role will be part of the Investor program; a program comprising multiple campaigns that aim to drive shareholders and long-term stewards of capital - from asset owners to asset managers - to adopt comprehensive climate policies to enable the global transition to a decarbonized economy.

About the Role

Working with Sunrise Project campaign leads and network partners, the Senior Communications Campaigner will develop and execute the communications and digital strategy that will fit with our broader campaign strategy to shift the investment industry away from fossil fuels and toward clean energy.  Initially this will include a priority focus on the asset manager Vanguard.

We support networks of organizations to work together to achieve outcomes that would not be possible by individual organizations acting alone. We expect all roles at Sunrise to actively support the capacity building of these networks and partner organizations.

About You

You are an experienced communications and/or digital professional with a knack for telling powerful stories that synthesize complex issues through a crowded media landscape. You know how to leverage the power of digital organizing to build stronger and sustained momentum to help win a corporate campaign.

You are skilled at developing big picture communications and/or digital strategy, and you are a team player with excellent interpersonal communications skills who excels at guiding and empowering others - from partners to contractors - to support them to do their best communications and digital work. You understand the traditional media landscape as well as digital platforms and you are skilled at delegating and prioritizing work as needed.  You are passionate about solving the climate crisis and winning campaigns. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Identifies opportunities, moments, target audiences, key stakeholders, and digital channels to shape messaging and storytelling around asset managers' role and responsibility in the climate crisis.

  • Creates and understands campaign frames, messages and talking points, and utilizes digital and traditional communication channels to balance delivering messaging to target audiences and key stakeholders.

  • Advises network partners on communications and digital strategies that benefit shared goals and coordinates together to build and amplify digital moments. 

  • Engages in media and digital monitoring and analysis, and makes recommendations to strengthen the impact of the campaign.

  • Oversees and provides direction to consultants and agencies, guiding them to create impactful communications materials for traditional press, social and digital media.

  • Onboards, orients, and manages additional digital and communications capacity during peak escalation moments.

  • Manages campaign social media platforms (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and other platforms as appropriate) & other digital communications (advertising, websites, & newsletter).

  • Writes copy for social media - or manages contractors accordingly - and frames content for different platforms based on audience and tone.

  • Monitors digital trends to ensure the campaign is reaching target audiences.

  • Works with the Sunrise team and partner organizations to develop communications materials, reports and other assets.

  • Aligns own work plan and OKRs with Sunrise mission, values and OKRs.

  • Responsible for risk management of public facing communications material 

Required skills, knowledge and experience    

  • Mid-level career experience in a similar or related role including unpaid, grassroots or lived experience;  or other relevant transferable skills and experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and strengthen communications and digital work across internal and external parties.

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with an ability to understand and analyze complex policy issues and communicate them clearly and compellingly to targeted audiences.

  • Experience with big picture communications strategy and storytelling.

  • Experience developing and/or implementing digital campaign strategies in line with overall campaign and communications goals. 

  • Media relations experience including pitching and landing top-tier media or experience managing people leading this work.

  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a network to deliver integrated campaigns using a range of digital platforms.

  • Experience managing projects and navigating coalition spaces.

  • Well developed relationships building and networking skills.

  • A passion for taking action on climate change and a deep commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience   

  • Digital advertising experience, particularly on LinkedIn, Twitter, and TikTok.

  • Experience working on (or a strong understanding of) climate and finance; asset managers and investor sector-specific knowledge.

  • Experience with email platforms or other CRMs.

  • Experience with website content management systems like WordPress and performing SEO.

Job requirements

  • You must be willing to collaborate with colleagues in European timezones.
