Who are we and what can we offer you?

The Behavioral Insights Team is the world leader in applying behavioral science to public policy challenges in order to strengthen communities and improve lives.

We design and rigorously test new ideas across a range of areas such as health, crime, and education, to establish what works and what doesn’t. We have helped Tuberculosis patients take their medicine; reduced police susceptibility to cyberattacks; and helped organizations close their gender pay gap.

We are committed to using and generating evidence, so we test our interventions using techniques like randomized controlled trials (RCTs) before they are scaled. For some of our recent projects, please see https://www.bi.team/our-work/blog/.

BIT was created inside the UK government in 2010 as the first government organization dedicated to applying behavioral science to policy and programs. Indeed, we created the term “behavioral insights.” We became a separate social purpose corporation in 2014; in 2015, we opened our North America office and work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment in Brooklyn, NY.

Most recently in 2021, BIT was acquired by Nesta, the UK’s innovation agency. By bringing together two leaders in their fields, the acquisition will help Nesta tackle some of the UK’s most pressing social challenges, and each organization will gain and exchange world class technical expertise in behavioral science, experimentation, design and data science.  BIT will remain a commercial social purpose company, whose profits will be invested in social impact initiatives and also help Nesta to advance its social missions.

BIT selects staff on the basis of our organization's values: always prioritizing social impact; empiricism and humility; fresh thinking, collaboration; and lasting partnerships.
