We have an exciting opportunity for a Strategic Partnerships Manager at Turn2us, a national charity tackling financial insecurity and its root causes. We work with people with lived experience of financial insecurity and partners to provide people in financial crisis with the means and agency to get back on their feet, build resilience, move forward with their lives and thrive.

As Strategic Partnerships Manager, you will be the “face” of our financial information tools and services.  In collaboration with our fundraising, comms and programmes teams, you will build strategic partnerships with charities, non-profits, and other organisations whose users will benefit from our ‘best in class’ products such as Grant, Benefits Calculator and other services currently in development.

You are a strategic thinker with a passion for social justice but you’ll also love to network and sell. Your track record of successfully developing and implementing partnerships in this space will be crucial to expanding the reach of our tools and services and in driving deep and long-lasting, positive change. Your expertise in communication and negotiation will enable you to capitalise on relationships with partners, whether new or old, grassroots or multinational. You will collaborate with teams across the organisation to ensure widespread recognition and use of our products and services, from Edinburgh to Barking & Dagenham and everywhere in between.

Job Description 

Job Title: Strategic Partnerships Manager

Department: Information Programmes  

Reports to: Head of Information Programmes  

Location: Hybrid: Turn2us London Hub (Hammersmith) & homeworking

Contract type: Full time, permanent

Purpose of the role: Leads on the development of strategic partnerships with charities, non-profits and other organisations in the income maximisation sector with a view to increasing the use, reach and impact of Turn2us’s information tools. The role is critical to Turn2us’s organisational vision of supporting people in building financial security so that they can thrive. 

Key responsibilities and accountabilities: 

1. Lead on the development of an income maximisation strategy to increase the reach and impact of the Turn2us suite of information tools.

2. Facilitate the integration of information tools, services and resources into work across the organisation to lead to more impactful outcomes for Turn2us work.

3. Support, empower and motivate team members professionally and personally, and promote a positive and uplifting work culture in alignment with Turn2us’s values and objectives. 

Duties: 

1. Lead on the development of an income maximisation strategy to increase the reach and impact of the Turn2us suite of information tools.

  • Develop and implement a long-term strategy to raise the profile and increase the market share of the Turn2us information tools and services with a view to increasing their reach and impact among target audiences.

  • Identify and establish relationships with potential partners in the public, private and voluntary sectors that lead to opportunities to increase the reach of the Turn2us tools and services.

  • Manage and maintain relationships with existing partners, ensuring that partnerships are delivering on organisational aims and objectives.

  • Develop a deep, nationwide understanding of competitor tools and their offer/promotional activity.

  • Ensure that partnership activities are monitored, evaluated and reported on effectively.

  • Keep abreast of important developments and events in the sector and ensure Turn2us’s involvement as necessary, subsequently sharing insight gained, as necessary.

  • Ensure Turn2us has a presence in important sector forums and fosters relationships with key individuals in the sector.

2. Facilitate the integration of information tools, services and resources into work across the organisation to lead to more impactful outcomes for Turn2us work.

  • Work with intermediaries linked to the Turn2us Edinburgh Trust, National Grants and Local Programmes teams to encourage use of, and trust in, the Turn2us information tools so that they can work more effectively with the communities in those areas.

  • Support product owners and the External Affairs and Income Generation teams to promote Turn2us’s information tools, ensuring that USPs and relative merits are highlighted broadly and consistently.

  • Contribute to work to create a standardised charging framework for Turn2us’s information tools and services and develop commercial opportunities for them.

  • Work with the wider organisation to ensure that Information Programmes partnerships are integrated with other fundraising and marketing activities, e.g., highlighting successful partnering collaborations with a view to encouraging other organisations to work with us in partnership.

  • Be a key voice for Information Programmes, representing the organisation at conferences, events and meetings where there is an opportunity to discuss and promote Turn2us products and related work.

3. Support, empower and motivate team members professionally and personally, and promote a positive and uplifting work culture in alignment with Turn2us’s values and objectives. 

  • Lead and manage the Senior Partnerships Development Officer and Grants Search Product Owner, providing guidance, support and development opportunities.

  • Create a collegiate, collaborative team culture where colleagues feel supported and valued and able to grow their skills and enhance their personal professional roadmap.  

  • Encourage a culture in which team members ‘own’ their area of work, taking responsibility for its outcomes, successes and failures. 

  • Create a culture of ongoing learning, building learnings into improved ways of working, especially valuing collaboration and clear, positive communication with colleagues and co-production partners. 

  • Embody and uphold Turn2us policies and processes, particularly relating to safeguarding, our values, EDIB and our commitment to systems change. 

These are the normal duties which the charity requires from the position. However, it is necessary for all staff to be flexible, and all employees will be required from time to time to perform other duties as may be required for the efficient running of the charity. This job description is non-contractual. It will be reviewed from time to time and may be subject to change.

Person Specification

Skills:

  • Proven experience of developing and implementing successful partnership business strategies and plans.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and to meet deadlines.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience of managing and developing a team.

  • Proven ability to monitor, evaluate and report on partnership activities effectively.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to inform decision making.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the non-profit sector, particularly around information provision and income maximisation.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of partnership development best practices, with experience in identifying and cultivating relationships with potential partners, particularly in the non-profit sector.

  • Knowledge of the financial insecurity and/or income maximisation landscape, including key stakeholders, trends, and policies.

  • Data and digital literacy.

  • Familiarity with relevant software and tools, especially Microsoft 365, and CRM systems, e.g. Beacon.

Experience:

  • Significant experience in partnership development, fundraising, or business development in the non-profit sector.

  • Experience of working collaboratively with senior stakeholders, both internally and externally.

  • Experience working in the financial insecurity sector or a related field, with a deep understanding of the sector's challenges and opportunities.

  • Demonstrated experience of managing a team, including setting performance. expectations, providing feedback and coaching, and managing performance.
